At the beginning of this class, you may have thought you knew a great deal about composition and what an English class should be. Many of you may have just completed high school and this is your first college-level English course; whereas some of you may have completed several college-level writing before starting this class. Whatever your experience, you arguably are not the same student when you first began.     Now you are at end of a journey in which you were asked to think outside-the-box and challenge some of your standing beliefs. You argued about many different things in this class. You spent several hours working on papers and trying to perfect a style in writing that will carry you throughout your academic career and allow you to enter the “conversation” of your discourse and major.     You learned about the cardinal rule of rhetoric. You learned about how and why it is important to understand the “baggage” you bring when you read something. You learned what it was to be challenged and rise to that challenge. You learned what it was like to use rhetorical tropes in essays and make them work for you. You learned how to be a college student in an English class.     In a well thought-out essay, discuss your own personal progression as a writer. I would like you to look back at your essays and see if you can identify an evolution in your writing. Look in particular for elements that demonstrate growth. I am not simply looking for you to tell me what you have learned. Rather, I am interested in your discussion of how you have changed as a person.     Here are some questions to consider: Have your outlooks on any particular subjects changed?  Did you accomplish what you set out to accomplish in this class? What can you take from this class and use—in a meaningful way—in other classes? Do you feel you have become a better writer? Why or why not? How?  These are some of the questions you can ask, but certainly not the only ones.     This is your opportunity to demonstrate to me your mastery of the course material. You may want to discuss and incorporate some rhetorical theory, rhetorical tropes, or any other element you used in the class to showcase your talent in their use.     Please note, it would be ideal for you to demonstrate your mastery of the major points discussed in the course. You are not asked—nor are you advised to—attempt to discuss all aspects of the course. This would create a very generic and underdeveloped final essay. Instead, what you should consider doing is picking several aspects and themes (maybe four or five) and focus on how those particular aspects and themes changed the way you now write. You may discuss theories, practices, exercises, etc.  Please note, there is no specific page limit or maximum for this assignment. You are asked to use your best judgement–as far as length is concerned–with this assignment.    Finally, this is a persuasive essay.
