Affordable Care Act and ObamaCare Affordable Care Act and ObamaCare When Trump was elected, he stated he wanted to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the same day he was sworn in as the US President he signed an order stating to “to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay” (Simmons- Duffin, 2019, para. 1) executing some parts of the ACA. This was not a plausible action because the ACA is very intrinsically woven into the health care system that changing some or all of it would potentially collapse the entire health care system and leave many Americans uninsured (Glied & Jackson, 2017) . Instead of repealing the act altogether, Trump has decided to piece meal the program and replace certain parts of it (Simmons-Duffin, 2019) to make the program better for Americans. Other than repealing or creating a piece meal situation, other alternatives have been explored by both Republicans and Democrats. Some have suggested a Medicare for all plan, in which every American would get Medicare much like senior citizens do. The plan means that the government would supply the health care coverage, and the consumer can use private organizations in which to receive care (Glied & Jackson, 2017) , however this would also create new taxes and tax laws in order to fund this. For the upcoming election, health care is going to be a huge topic and concern for American voters. Affordable health care has been overshadowed with our current pandemic and racial tensions. Currently there is a lawsuit placed by Trump to review the ACA and determine if it is constitutional (Rovner, 2020). This lawsuit will not be decided before the upcoming election and will be tied up in the legal system for quite some time. Meanwhile, both Democrat and Republicans cannot agree on a new health care plan. The candidates will need to research and come up with new ideas to remain competitive in the American voter market.
