Gout: Gout is a musculoskeletal disorder. The accumulation of fluids such as lymph, water, ions and fatty materials in between cells of any organ or between interstitial space and cavities of the organs are leading to increased volume along oedema. Increase level of uric acid crystals are between bones are leading to gout.
Drugs and adverse negative effects: Allopurinol is a suicide inhibitor (Gout disease) against xanthine oxidase; most important to note is that allopurinol reduces the excess production of uric acid in the patient’s body which can result or results in buildup. This buildup of uric acid is the one which causes the kidney stones or gout. One of the precaution which should be taken into consideration is that one should not use allopurinol if the patient has ever had a serious case of allergic reaction. The drug has a history of lowering the production of blood cells which makes the patient prone to infectious diseases and also bleed from any small injury.
Gout predominantly observed in older people due to formation of uric acid crystals in the synovial fluid due to hyperuricemia inside the blood thereby these uric acid crystal deposits make the joints and tendons connecting bone to muscle subjected to severe inflammation result in inflammatory arthritis. Severity is higher in older people who drink a lot of beer, meat and fructose sweetened drinks. Gout has severe impact on older people rather younger aged 20 to 35. Potential negative effects produced by the gout on elders life style due to deposition of uric acid crystal s in their joint as they cannot walk.
Drugs such as allopurinol and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) preferred as treatment along with corticosteroids and loop diuretics to enhance uric acid dieresis. It has illustrated that negative effects of gout is due to genetic factors due to familial inheritance of gout genes SLC2A9, SLC22A12. NSAIDS produce hepatotoxicity whereas colchicine may cause abnormal cell division effects due to change in chromosomal number. These negative effects of the gout produced on day 3, has to be abolished by using vitamin C supplement and diuretics to eliminate excess deposits of drug in the hepatic metabolism through renal filtrate. High amount of drinking water important to eliminate excess drug deposits from the body.
Allopurinol has some side effects such as pain during urination or when bleeding, muscle weakness, joint pain and flu symptoms. There is also the nausea, loss of appetite, jaundice and extreme pain in the patient’s upper stomach. The first symptom of the Allopurinol side effects is the fever, headache and mild skin rash. There are those drugs which affects allopurinol which include azathioprine, diuretic, mercaptopurine, chlorpropamide and other several anti-biotics.
