Where does traditional CJ theory (social control, social learning, rational choice and so on) fit into your current thinking about criminality today? Where does emerging theory (restorative justice, strain theory, alternatives responses to crime), fit, or not fit, into your current thinking? In the final paper, I expect you to engage in a critical analysis of all the materials offered in the course, comparing and contrasting different theoretical approaches in the context of your professional life or the depiction of crime in the media. You will be able to select any basis for comparison: effectiveness, practicality, victim consideration, reduction in recidivism, expense, and another contextual account of your choosing.
