1. Students will write a 2 to 4-page critical review of the dissertation they have chosen.  The review will be based on concepts learned in class, articles from class, and textbooks).  Choosing a dissertation:  It must clearly use a qualitative research method discussed in Merriam & Tisdell (2016) book.   Here are some general guidelines. 2. Writing the review: Assume an intelligent audience that doesn’t know much about research design.  Don’t write the review in the first person, use a third-person narrative.  Don’t just summarize the article.  I don’t care about your opinion of the article.  Critically review it based on what you know about research. Liberally refer to the textbooks for reference as you analyze your paper.  Here are some areas to think about as you are reviewing the article (not an inclusive list): *Does the author clearly provide a statement of the problem? *Does the statement provide adequate justification for the research? *Is there a research/guiding question? *Is it clear and concise? *Does the literature review align with the problem statement? *Does the author clearly identify their research method? *Can you match it with a method described by Merriam & Tisdell? *What methods were used to validate the data? Describe the triangulation. *Was the appropriate analysis used for the study?  Was it justified? *What was the result? 3. Format: The analysis will be formatted per the APA guide, 7th edition.  This requirement will be STRICTLY adhered to.  Use a formal paragraph structure to write your paper (A topic sentence, the body, and a closing sentence).  Do NOT use the questions above as headings in your paper.
