Your primary task is to evaluate individuals coming into your agency seeking some form of counseling. After you complete your assessment, it is your job to refer the client to one of the many counseling services your agency offers (e.g., individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, or alcohol and drug abuse services). Given what you now know about family therapy (e.g., what it has to offer, how it approaches targeted problems and the theories) what are some of the more important factors you will consider when referring this individual for family therapy versus the other treatment approaches your agency offers ? Please base your response upon the theory-based foundations of family therapy (e.g. Bowen family systems, REBT, CBT, Solution focused brief therapy, etc.) we are reviewing this week.
