1. Psychoanalytic theory places great emphasis on the first five years of life for later personality development. Does this fit your intuition about personality, or intuitively does it seem as if significance changes occur after the early childhood years?The first five years of a childs life are extremely crucial to their development. During those years, the child undergoes rapid physical development, cognitive progression, emotional awareness, and daily health milestones. One cannot overemphasize the importance of those years in a childs life because they could potentially have lifelong implications on personality and overall functioning.One of my supervisors in my previous area of work used to liken the first five years to an investment fund. The more you tend to it and deposit appropriate learning, the better the return in future smarter, stronger, healthier and more productive individuals. In other words, the first five years last forever.I develop my perception from years of graduate level studying through my masters coursework, 8 years of working with children in the field of child protective services, and finally my personal experience with observing children develop and grow to interact, function, and handle situations in their environment.2.
