Anxiety in the workplace
Discussion Board Post: 5 Newspaper Articles In preparation for the first week of the topic, substantial, independent research will be conducted. A minimum of 5 articles related to the topic must be researched, posted and summarized. Appropriate APA referencing of each article is required, as well as about 2-3 paragraph summaries. Students may need to research more than 5 articles so they are well-informed of the topic. Summaries should be comprehensive and look to connect what is said in the article to other articles and HRM or other business knowledge. The topics are broad to provide space for each student to explore the topic as they desire; however, by Sunday 11:59 pm the discussion board post is due. This post must for each article: -Provide the title and APA reference for the article -Provide a summary of the article -The implications the article has on HRM and/or business. -Connections which may be made between the article with other discussions within this class, as well as other material from previous classes, including previous HRM classes. Part of this connection should include how to consider this within the strategy of the organization, and appropriately identifying the topic within an internal/external scan. So, discussion of general environment (political, social, economic, legal) is required as well. Discussion Board Post: Specific Topic The second week’s discussion board post requires that each student identify a specific topic within the general topic introduced in the first week. Students should explain why they are choosing this specific topic within the area. In doing so, students should also address its importance to HRM, management, and why. In addition to identifying other articles on the topic, students are required to identify two journal articles and summarize them as done for the first week’s discussion boards. These summaries should be about 300 words each. It is at this point students should begin thinking about what their thoughts are on the topic and formulate an outline of the op-ed they will submit at the end of the third week. The post is worth 5 points. Op-Ed At the close of each 3-week block, students will submit their own op-ed on the specific topic identified in week 2. The oped should be less than 1000 words, preferably 700-800 words. Links to sources, definitions, or other articles should be included within the writing, if necessary. If this is done, be sure that you create a hyperlink within the document, as well as copy and past the hyper link in parenthesis next to the word that would be considered the link. As it is an op-ed, you must take a side, advocating in a compelling, yet civil and respectful manner. There may also need to be a recommendation of a course of action, so be sure to formulate your argument appropriately. Within the op-ed, overt reference must be made to the topic in reference to business management and connected to HRM and the workforce.
