Analysis of a Pertinent Healthcare Issue
Develop a 3- to 4-page paper, written to your organization’s leadership team, addressing your selected national healthcare issue/stressor and how it is impacting your work setting. Be sure to address the following:
Describe the national healthcare issue/stressor you selected and its impact on your organization. Use organizational data to quantify the impact (if necessary, seek assistance from leadership or appropriate stakeholders in your organization).
Provide a brief summary of the two articles you reviewed from outside resources on the national healthcare issue/stressor. Explain how the healthcare issue/stressor is being addressed in other organizations.
Summarize the strategies used to address the organizational impact of national healthcare issues/stressors presented in the scholarly resources you selected. Explain how they may impact your organization both positively and negatively. Be specific and provide examples.
Healthcare is a dynamic field that is always evolving depending on fresh study findings.
Interprofessional collaboration is one of the important healthcare challenges that is gaining traction (IPC).
IPC is a procedure in which a group of healthcare professionals collaborate to provide high-quality treatment to the community, patients, caregivers, and families (Kersbergen et al., 2020).
The main reason for this is that coordination helps one individual to see healthcare from the perspective of the other, resulting in high-quality patient-centered care.
Traditionally, healthcare workers worked in groups of specialist health professionals, with solitary acts receiving less attention.
However, in recent years, there has been a push for healthcare workers to work in teams that include a variety of healthcare experts.
This paper will highlight how interprofessional collaboration has impacted my organization, provide a synopsis of two articles on IPC, and explain how IPC is addressed in other healthcare organizations.
It will also discuss techniques for managing the organizational consequences of IPC as well as the tactics’ effects.
My Healthcare Organization’s Impact on IPC
Interprofessional collaboration is slowly becoming more prevalent in the healthcare organization where I work, and it has had a huge impact.
The coordination of patient care, for example, has vastly improved.
Various healthcare experts, such as a physician, nurse, and pharmacist, are present during rounds.
The number of adverse drug responses has decreased dramatically in the healthcare organization since the pharmacist began attending rounds.
Interprofessional teamwork has also helped to reduce staff turnover.
People were said to have departed the organization owing to irritation caused by a lack of good coordination at first, but since the IPC program was established, various healthcare workers appear to be happier and more satisfied with their jobs.
Furthermore, medical errors have decreased dramatically as a result of IPC’s greater teamwork and enhanced communication.
Impaired communication, like it is in any other healthcare setting, is connected to a higher risk of medical error.
The quality of care provided to patients at our facility has also improved dramatically.
This is due to a number of causes.
For example, IPC has made it simple to refer patients to our hospital from other healthcare providers.
This is because it ensures that all pertinent patient data is transferred together with the patient.
As a result, it lowers the hazards that patients face during the transfer process.
Due to the smooth flow of information between different healthcare personnel, improved communication also ensures that every part of the patient is taken care of comprehensively (Bosch & Mansell, 2015).
When a healthcare team is built around a patient, it allows the patient to receive the most attention possible and increases the quality of treatment offered (Reeves et al., 2017).
Different professionals in my organization have also been ranked at the same level by IPC.
As a result, we can work together to advance the agenda for better patient care and working conditions for healthcare personnel.
Summary of Articles
I’ll go over the review of the two articles on interprofessional collaboration in a few words.
Paper 1: “Interprofessional teamwork in health care: Lessons from competitive sports” is the title of the article.
Brennan Bosch and Holly Mansell collaborated on the script.
According to the article, in order for healthcare delivery to be successful, healthcare personnel must cooperate like members of a high-performing team.
They must be responsible, accountable, disciplined, collaborative, and have excellent communication abilities.
Furthermore, just like in competitive sports, each member of a healthcare team must be assigned a defined function to play.
When team members have overlapping roles, it can lead to misunderstanding, which can contribute to the team’s ineffectiveness, much as it can non competitive sports (Bosch & Mansell, 2015).
Furthermore, while certain members of a team may have administrative responsibilities, others should be able to express their thoughts.
According to Bosch & Mansell (2015), members should focus more on winning together, much as they do in competitive sports.
As a result, members should put their egos aside and work together as a team.
Article 2: “Interprofessional collaboration to improve professional practice and healthcare outcomes” is the title of the article.
Scott Reeves, Ferruccio Pelone, Reema Harrison, Joanne Goldman, Merrick Zwarenstein, and the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization of Care Group collaborated on it.
Various sorts of IPC interventions were discussed in the essay.
Interprofessional events, meetings, rounds, and checklists were among them.
According to the article, impaired IPC might have a negative impact on healthcare service delivery.
Work failures have been observed as a result of decreased collaboration caused by a lack of commitment to recommended standards, according to the report.
IPC also encourages people to make the best use of the healthcare resources they have.
Externally facilitated interprofessional collaboration enhances patient outcomes because healthcare personnel are more likely to follow recommended procedures (Reeves et al., 2017).
It claims that using interprofessional rounds and checklists allows for the most efficient use of existing resources, reducing waste.
In comparison to interdisciplinary video conferencing, the article indicated that multidisciplinary audio conferencing may lengthen the period of treatment.
Other Healthcare Organizations’ Approaches to IPC
Other healthcare organizations are increasingly incorporating interprofessional collaboration into their operations.
This is due to the mutual respect it fosters and the fair playing field it gives for a variety of healthcare professionals.
Individual team members are also able to bring varied viewpoints on healthcare service delivery.
Furthermore, according to Buchmueller & Wittwer (2017), the Affordable Care Act of 2010 cleared the path for expanded integration of IPC in primary care services.
Strategies for Addressing IPC’s Organizational Impact
The organizational impact of interprofessional collaboration is addressed through a variety of techniques.
Research and systemic reviews were employed to address the organizational implications in the publications I read.
Questionnaires can be given to healthcare personnel and patients, and they can be asked about their experiences using IPC.
Patients should be asked if the quality of their care has improved as a result of IPC, and healthcare staff should be queried about the impact of IPC on their morale and job satisfaction.
These techniques have a beneficial impact on my healthcare company because they allow patients to get high-quality care.
They also provide a space for service enhancement.
Conclusion
As mentioned in this study, incorporating IPC has been extremely beneficial and has contributed greatly to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
More research on the impact of IPC is needed in order to design more successful IPC implementation tactics.
