Assessment Worksheet
Research existing psychological assessments (MMPI-II, Weschler IQ Scales, etc.) to identify three measures of the constructs you are studying for your research question. (Please respond to #4 for all three of your psychological assessments)
1. What is your research question?
Does an environmental setting influence the development of drug addiction?
My research question will be determining different factors that may increase the risk of an individual developing a drug addiction. Substance and drug addiction is a pertinent issue affecting the youth, and the adult generation of our society. Many health and social issues are associated with drug abuse.
My research however seeks to determine if drug use has any effect on how age and environmental setting can influence substance abuse, which leads to drug addiction. Peer pressure, stress, domestic, and financial issues are all factors that have led to the widespread use of drugs. For the younger generation it sometimes start with wanting to fit in with the current trend and wanting to be the cool kid on the block or even following in the paths of a family member. Adults more, so start using as a feeling of relief from daily stressful problems. There are many other reasons why people indulge in the use of drugs. According to research studies, at least 10% of all people who experiment with drugs become addicted.
2. Write a testable hypothesis for your research question.
The testable hypothesis in this research is can environmental; exposures influence the occurrence of substance abuse, which leads to drug addiction?
Substance abuse is a popular and dangerous drug that is synonymous with today’s society experience. Drugs is present at many environmental social gatherings which makes it very influential. Since drugs is easily accessible within communities, many people are tempted to try it. Many become addited after there first use. Once addicted drugs begin to take control behavior begin to change and nothing seems to matter in life but getting that high day after day.
The null hypothesis also known as the alternative hypothesis will be that ones age nor environmental circumstances has no influence and on the probability of an individual’s substance abuse or drug addiction.
3. What constructs is your research question investigating?
The constructs that my research question will be investigating will focus on the type of environments that one lives and the effects it may have on an individual and their development of drug addiction.
The research will also examine how the environment relate to drug addiction and the mental and physical effects of drug addiction, on different age groups. Drug addiction suppresses the users’ neural activities, which, therefore affects the users’ concentration, memory and alertness. Because of this many drug users begin to distance themselves from family, lose jobs and causes youth to become troublesome at school and fail academically.
4. Provide the following information for three measures of the constructs:
A. What is the test? Include the name and authors.
1. Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI), Miller, G.A.
2. Car, Relax, Alone, Forget, Friends, Trouble (CRAFT), Children’s Hospital Boston, 2001
3. Inventory of Drug-Taking Situations (IDTS), Tony Cellucci and Glenn Gelman
B. How is the test used? Include the target population, how the test is administered, and what information it provides.
The SASSI is a brief self-report, easily administered psychological screening measure that is available in separate versions for adults and adolescents. It is designed to identify individuals who have a high probability of having a substance use disorder, including both substance abuse and substance dependence. The subtle items are included to identify some individuals with alcohol and other drug problems who are unwilling or unable to acknowledge substance misuse or symptoms associated with it. Target Population Adults and adolescence.
The CRAFT is a screeing tool that involves the use of six items to determine drug use amongst adults. This test focuses more on risky drug use than on the diagnostic issues related to drug use. It consists on yes/no questions and it is self-administered either orally or in a written form. It requires approximately one minute completing it and two answers in the affirmative indicate that the respondent requires further assessment. Drug abusers is the target population.
The IDTS is an inventory designed to assess and profile detailed situations of individuals who have taken drugs within the year. Drug treatment needs are high within the population. This inventory aims to how we can improve and help drugs addiction in this type of environment. Inventory Drug-Taking Situations (IDTS) is a universal instrument used to determine high-risk situations resulting in drug abuse. Drug users target population
C. What is known about the test’s psychometric properties, such as reliability and validity?
The CRAFT is supported by many studies as being reliable and valid for substance abuse and considered a good tool to use for assessing future needed assessments
The SASSI is supported by reliable and valid studies. The retest measure for reliabity was used. A criterion measure of validility was derived. The test is known to have an ease of administration and scoring, and availability of computer format for data storage and analysis which makes this instrument highly useful for research applications.
The IDTS uses correlating scales for a total score with many measures of self-reported consumption, dependence, and social context. . Face and content validity, internal consistency, and reliability are based on the completed questionnaires, using test-retest method and confirmatory factor analysis. Inventory of Drug Taking Situations was shown to be a valid and reliable instrument to apply in clinical and research.

D. Why would the test be useful for your study?
The SASSI it can identify individuals who have a high probability of having a substance use disorder, including both substance abuse and substance dependence. The SASSI profile suggest that it is useful in understanding a clients and providing good feedback
The CRAFT would useful because it is designed to screen for substance-related risks and problems in adolescents.
The IDTS will assist in this research with identifying addiction problems in different social/environmental factors for addicts like a prison system. It can also provide how to provide help to decrease drug addiction by showing the need to educating people.
