Bureaucracy Essay The goal of this assignment is for you to use your life experience as data to understand the nature and function of a bureaucracy . In an essay of 1,000 words, describe an organization with which you have direct personal experience and which appears to fit the characteristics of a bureaucracy, as listed in Chapter 6 of Our Social World: An Introduction to Sociology. Your essay should incorporate the five items listed below and show that the organization bureaucracy meets each characteristic: Clear hierarchical levels of authority with the work assignments flowing downward A division of labor Written rules Written communications and records Impersonality Be sure to provide a conclusion paragraph to your essay. You must use a minimum of three scholarly sources.* ***I work in corrections as a nurse and the Department of Corrections is like a paramilitary system. 1. Wardens dictate to the correctioanl staff and the work is divided into shifts and the people on the shifts work all the odd hours and holidays with time off is given to senior officers. The rules are printed and post orders are in each unit. Communication is basically a need to know basis but records are kept exceptionally well. The small groups that work together have some connection but on the bigger scale staff is expected to show up for work, not complain about their personal issues, not complain about mandatory OT, never be sick or need time off, I enjoy my job but the systems around me need to be more personable.
