The concluding weeks of the course have addressed sustainability practices in the following global industries, focusing on the indicated HBS case studies:  – Healthcare: Novartis – Manufacturing: Dell, Huawei  Choose any two of these industries. Write essays (4 pages each, 8 pages total, double spaced) analyzing sustainability in your two selected industries. In your essay, be sure to address each of the following questions:  • What sustainability-related problems do these industries confront?  • What solutions to these sustainability problems did the corporations featured in the HBS cases implement?  • What continuing challenges in sustainability do the two industries face?  In your essay, be sure to provide illustrative examples from the readings, lectures, Sideshift videos, class discussions, and team presentations to defend your argument. Our final assignment for this course is a research essay where you will investigate a pressing issue facing film, culture, or media brought about by the Internet and other digital technologies. You may revisit or expand on a topic you explored in your Media Model or Concept Analysis. Alternatively, you may choose a new topic to explore. In your essay: Describe the current events or situation surrounding your topic. Present an argument. You might choose to explain why this is a problem, and even offer an analysis of done to address it. You might argue that the situation presents an opportunity, which deserves more attention than it has currently. In other words, your essay must answer the following questions about your topic: “What is happening here? Why is it important? What should be done about it?” Include a clear thesis statement which answers these questions. Use facts and research to establish an informed position on the issues at hand. Consult at least 5 supporting sources for your essay. These must include: 2 or more scholarly peer-reviewed sources. 1 example pieces of media (such as a film, YouTube video, artwork, book, meme, blog post) used as evidence, a primary source, or case study. You may use the media example from your first assignment for this purpose. 1 newsworthy article or source Remember, a quote does not indicate research. I do not have very specific info from the professor.  The only file she has given is how to write a lab report pdf she pulled from the tutoring center.  I am flexible on the subject of the paper. If it needs to be changed to something else, please message me to ensure that we went over it in my class. I dont want to turn in a paper on something we didnt cover.  This week you are designing, carrying out, and writing up your own physics experiment! The December 7-10 pages provide guidance, and I expect to see you at virtual office hours with questions! I’m happy to help you at any stage of the process, even to help you think of an experiment. I will be asking the following questions when I grade: Is this an experiment that relates substantively to PHY 111? (You can make the connection clear in your introduction.) Are the independent, dependent, and control variables clear and appropriate? Does the experiment actually address the hypothesis? Was the experiment carried out with appropriate measurements and precision? Is a thorough and accurate understanding of the relevant physics demonstrated? Is the experiment original (we didn’t already do it in class and I can’t find it in existence already online)? Is the conclusion appropriate and commensurate with the results? Does the lab report follow the guidelines — both the format and the substance of each section?

For the final assignment, I will provide each of you with a total synthesis paper to read and evaluate. The purpose of this report is to study one Jazz, Blues or Rock N’ Roll music composer/artist from any era. (Creedence Clearwater Revival is the band this paper will be about) After you have chosen your topic and had it approved by the instructor, study your topic in depth and write a 3-5 page report about it. Your textbook provides a very thorough list of music composers. If you have interest in a composer whose name is not in the textbook, it must be approved by the instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to choose a topic for this report.   How to get started:   1)    Select a minimum of 60 minutes’ worth of music from your chosen topicand listen to the music a minimum three times through. Recordings will generally be available online, and some may be available at the library. Before choosing recordings, you should read enough about the composer to know which works are their most significant works. 2)    Read about the composer’s life and music. If there isn’t much in the library about your composer, you can search for magazine and newspaper articles and reviews on the internet. You should spend a considerable amount of time reading, researching and learning about your topic. CD liner notes are also a good source of information, if they are provided.   3)    After your research and listening are complete, organize your notes and the music you listened to, and then answer each of the following questions in list form, in order. Keep your report at no more or less than 3-5 pages in length. No cover page is necessary.   Part I: Basic Information Provide the following basic information about the composer, the music you listened to, and the sources you consulted: A.   Composer’s full name, birth date and location, as well as death date and location (or, if still alive, where s/he lives now)   B.   A complete list of the music you listened to, including all of the following information: composition title, album name and release year   C.   Complete list of your reading resources Example: Grove Online Dictionary of Music: Article on Scott Joplin H.C. A.   Why did you choose this composer? Had you heard this music before, or did you discover it for the first time during this project? Discuss aspects of the musical period, the style, or the musician’s catalog that attracted you.   B.   Summarize important events in the composer’s life, such as musical family background, teachers or influences, first artistic successes, and later masterworks. Demonstrate why the composer was significant.   C.   Out of your list of songs by your composer, choose three (3) favorite pieces and write a short essay paragraph about each one. Include the following: a.  Brief description of the work b.  When, where, and why the work was written c.  What you liked about the piece ·         Be as specific as possible. For example, you could say, “I like the way the strings played long running passages – it was very exciting.” ·         Use the techniques we have learned in class to understand the music, and describe it in terms of its specific elements. For example, you could say, “The melody was very regular, but the rhythm was syncopated and uneven.”   D.   Now, of the three works you chose above, take one of your favorite pieces and answer the following question about it: How did this piece make you feel? Be subjective. You may have juxtaposed reactions, or opposite emotions such as happy/sad, relaxed/tense, light/heavy. Choose the words that best describe your feelings about the music. Relate these feelings to the elements of the music itself. For example, you could say, “The slow rhythm and complex harmonies made me feel very tense. It built up to a strong climax, when suddenly, the rhythm became fast and pulsating and the harmonies changed quickly.”   E.   In conclusion, think about the composer you chose and the music you listened to. Answer these questions:   How did listening to this composer’s music and learning about his/her life affect my appreciation of music? What discoveries did I make about the music and about myself as a music listener?The purpose of this question is for you to journal your experience with the music.     Assignment Requirements -Your assignment must be 3-5 pages in length (no more or less), and it must address both Part I and Part II.   – A standard writing style format is preferred but not required. Any one of the following writing styles is encouraged: MLA Format  (Links to an external site.) , Chicago Style, Turabian, or APA. For this assignment, you will pick a research article published in the past 10 years that describes the engineering of an enzyme and its use in a biocatalytic application. Please ensure it is a RESEARCH ARTICLE and NOT A REVIEW. Prepare a Powerpoint presentation (15–20 slides) that describes the article. Goals To learn about enzyme engineering and biocatalysis, using all the knowledge that you acquired in class To learn how to read a research article, extract and convey essential information. Pick a research article that describes the engineering of an enzyme and its use in biocatalysis –       For help in finding a suitable article, you can use PubMed or Google Scholar.
