Travel Tours specializes in personalized travel packages at popular prices, and the company operates 12 offices in major U.S. cities. A key selling point is the company’s client management database, which includes preferences such as airline seating choices and favorite hotels. Travel Tours purchased a client management software as an off-the-shelf vendor package and modified the program to meet the company’s needs. The package has been operational for one year and has performed well. Travel Tours, however, is in the process of expanding its operation to include six additional locations. You have been called in as a consultant to help the company make some decisions about IT support. What performance and workload measurement issues should the company consider at the present time? What capacity planning issues should the company consider at the present time? Should the company establish a system baseline before the integration of the six new sites? Explain your answer. As an IT consultant, you must understand the client’s business. From that perspective, consider the impact of the Internet on the travel agency business. Explain how Walmart’s and Southwest’s Value Chain is similar and how it differs to create a strategic advantage in their respected industries.

Think of this stage as dumping everything out that’s in a bucket to a) see what’s even in the bucket and b) sort it into fairly specific piles (such as two people are saying the exact same thing just with slightly different wording).  Step 2: After you’ve finished Step 1, look over your codes and think about what the second-order coding might look like. How would you group these aspects together? Remember that we want to come up with categories of goals that describe “what did this person want to accomplish with their communication?” We want these categories to be mutually exclusive (what fits into one category doesn’t fit into any others) but also not so broad and overarching that we only end up with two-three categories. I started brainstorming a codebook and categories, and then ended up mainly writing down questions that I felt needed to be resolved to figure out the overarching categories (I created a second sheet to brainstorm in and started trying to recode everything at the second-order in the first sheet in the notes column; you can organize this however).
