In the United States, good higher education is the statistical gateway to financial success and sociopolitical status. While access to good higher education resources is open to all, positions are limited, and some clearly have competitive advantage over others. Parents with the resources can send their children to better funded schools (public or private) with smaller classes, better teachers and counselors, more opportunities for personal development, and ambitious peers. They can hire tutors to help motivate their children to work through educational challenges, send them to SAT prep courses, find them helpful internships with paid placement services, and so on. In addition, such parents are far more likely to be educated themselves and be in position to use personal connections to provide their children with work opportunities that make their child more competitive. Early literacy relies on appropriately preparing young children for reading. As young children are exposed to letters and sounds, they begin to build a foundation for phonemic awareness. This step is critical in preparing for the sequential order of reading instruction. Phonemic awareness, phonics,  fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension build off each other to provide appropriate development for literacy. Create a 12-15 slide digital presentation intended to be shown to elementary general education classroom teachers within a professional development setting.
