Language Milestone Timeline Language development is a critical component of students’ academic and social growth. Special educators are often challenged with the responsibility of analyzing language and speech disorders and their implications for learning to appropriately respond to the needs of students with disabilities. Based on your readings and research on typical language development, identify a minimum of three typical speech and language milestones from birth to age 5, using the “Language Milestone Timeline Chart.” For each milestone identified, list potential causes of delays, implications for learning for children with those delays, and evidence-based learning strategies that can be used to support and enhance the communication skills of children with those speech and language delays. Support your findings with a minimum of five scholarly resources.

Assignment: Literature Review Step II Completing a literature review requires higher order and critical thinking skills. In a literature review, you extract themes and key information, and synthesize them to illustrate your point. In Discussion 2, you selected four articles about a topic, you then organized the information about the four articles by identifying and summarizing them. In essence, you completed the first step of a mini literature review. In this Assignment, you complete the next step of a mini literature review by critically analyzing the information you have gathered. In Discussion 1, you answered the question: What information is available on the issue and what does it say? In this Assignment, you want to answer questions such as: What themes can I identify? How does this information relate to the issue I am exploring? What information is most important, and why? What problem(s) related to the issue the authors address? What problems still need to be addressed? To prepare for this Assignment, review the required readings (e.g., APA readings) related to literature reviews. By Day 7 of Week 5 Submit a 4- to 5-page literature review based on the four articles you collected. Be sure your literature review reflects the questions posed in the opening paragraphs of this Assignment. NOTE: This assignment is based off of a Case Study that we’ve been studying: Case Study for Issues in K-12 Education. Scenario: Your state is considering a required set of education standards that all schools must adopt. You have been nominated to serve on the statewide committee to inform the legislature as to which standards, if any, should be adopted. You will have the opportunity to take a stand on the following issue; does a set of required standards improve or limit education for all students (e.g., general education students, special education, English language learners, gifted learners) in state schools? I chose to argue that common core state standards (CCSS) improve education for all students in state schools. However, it is the implementation of the standards that is the problem. I’m a special education teacher (DeKalb County School District in GA) so I like choosing articles about the CCSS and students with disabilities. I also like to focus on what the literature is saying about the role that teachers play in the implementation of the standards and how the teachers are prepared to carry out the implementation of the CCSS (professional development). Furthermore, I like to focus on what the articles are saying about modifying the curriculum for students with disabilities and how students with disabilities are being tested in regards to CCSS.

The majority of this course is focused on the practice of writing formally and your writing reflections are no different. Where they do differ, though, is that they specifically push you to reflect upon yourself as a writer, offering you an ability to utilize personal experience and viewpoints as the explicit basis to think of the practice of writing. For your first writing reflection, I want you to address the following: From your vantage point, what is the purpose of writing? In your experience, what aspects of writing do you excel at? Struggle with? How have you overcome those struggles? (Or, if you haven’t, why haven’t you?) Make sure to incorporate examples. Note that this is personal reflection. Question 1: What is biliteracy and how is it developed through dual language instruction? Biliteracy is often recognized as the first goal or pillar of dual language bilingual education programs. However, there is often significant confusion among teachers, administrators, parents, and students about what biliteracy is, and this confusion can undermine the effectiveness of a dual language program. In this exam question, you will prepare two products: one for an academic audience on the question of what biliteracy is, and another for a parent community audience on the question of what biliteracy is and how it is developed through dual language instruction. Part I: A literature review addressed to an academic audience First, write a brief but formal and scholarly review of the literature that answers the focal question, What is biliteracy? Please be sure to define the term biliteracy and, as you do so, compare and contrast several different definitions used in the literature. Give specific examples in your discussion. Because this is a literature review, your audience is an academic audience including researchers, professors, and fellow graduate students.
