There have been over 200,000 deaths attributable to COVID in the US. COVID is a mutation of a virus that previously had only infected non-human mammals, but once the mutation occurred naturally out in the wild it began to infect humans.   COVID virus is a new organism and is independent from other types of illness, like the flu.   Microscopic organisms called viruses and bacteria exist and cause illness in humans.
