Task 1: Choose from one of the following stages: pregnancy, infancy and childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age. List the specific nutrition issues affecting individuals in your selected stage. Task 2: Choose a disease or medical condition that could possibly, or commonly, affect your individual. This could be anything ranging from diabetes to cirrhosis. Using the ABCDs of nutritional assessment, create a case study based on an actual client or patient. You can also make one up. Include the following in your case study: Anthropometrics, relevant biochemical tests, clinical assessment, and dietary intake analysis. Be sure to include a list of common medications that may be used to treat your patient’s condition and identify potential herb/nutrient/drug interactions that may be relevant. Identify your client’s cultural background and give clues as to their socioeconomic status and psychosocial variables. For example, your patient may be a senior living alone on a fixed income or might be living in a nursing facility with reputed staff.

Exploratory essays ask questions and gather information that may answer those questions. However, the main point of the exploratory or inquiry essay is not to find definite answers. The main point is to conduct inquiry into a topic, gather information, and share that information with readers. For this essay, you will be exploring at least three different perspectives on your research paper topic. You must explore both the supporting argument and opposing argument, plus a third possible perspective. Be sure to address the audience for each perspective and any assumptions/constraints that apply. You’ll employ aspects of the Rogerian strategy here as this paper attempts to not only explore multiple arguments, but to understand them as well. This paper is not argumentative, it is a roadmap to the nuances and multiple perspectives of your topic. The beauty of this paper is that some of it can be used in your research paper!

What are the unmet health care needs you see in your community? What determinants of health are related to these unmet needs and what determinants require action and advocacy efforts? How do your identified issues impact your work and your sphere of influence? Consider some of the following examples that affect communities: various needs of veterans (homelessness, post-traumatic stress), immigration, undocumented workers, medical and/or legalized marijuana, reproductive health care, unemployment, poor environmental conditions, limited access to health care, and lack of heath care. How does the problem affect: Quality of life (being, belonging, and becoming) Life expectancy Health issue costs – (financial and emotional) • Comorbidities What are the impacts on individuals, families/peers, and the community if nothing is done and what can be expected if there are interventions? Acknowledge both short and long- term impacts. Part IV: Promising Approaches for Improved Results Using data from your social assessment research, describe the potential for change. Capacities: Identify community capacities that can help with change efforts. Explain the capacities, strengths, assets of the priority population that will help foster change, and key resources (organizations/programs/professionals) that are already available, refer to asset mapping. Solutions: If known, introduce best practices/changes that have been shown effective solutions to the problem.
