To prepare for this discussion, reflect on what you know about Federal Controlled Substance Laws with respect to prescriptions. Review the laws surrounding controlled substance prescriptions as well as the rates of prescription drug abuse. Think about the process of obtaining and filling prescriptions that are CIII-CV vs. CII and the laws surrounding these classes of drugs. This discussion will focus on access to health care and the difference between a primary healthcare system and an “illness care” system. In addition, we will focus on patient advocacy.
