Doc Holliday
An enormous literature has grown up around the notorious men (and women) of the West. Some is highly fictionalized, most is either adulatory or part of a subgenre of hostile debunking. Yet out of this discourse emerges Herdas book, which is interesting as he admittedly notes that he is pleased to present my biography of Doctor John H. Holliday to the world in order to set the record straight. In his very own words. Based on your reading of Herdas book, they call me DOC The Story Behind The Legend Of John Henry Holliday and the film Tombstone, respond to the following question: Who exactly is Doc Holliday? Your essay should be comprised of 6-8 typewritten pages, double-spaced, #12 font only (a size similar to Times New Roman as a larger font will result in the loss of points – as well for a wider margin). I would advise that you use spelling & grammar in MSWord (or similar) and avoid the passive voice. Both the book and film need to be cited in the style of your choice; you must do either footnotes or in-text citations i.e. (Shi, pg. 21) giving credit to quotes AND to an authors thoughts as well. You will need to include a works cited (bibliography). Note: a works cited is not part of your page count. Please do not plagiarize.

Development of the United States
Final Project HIST 1306 Over the course of the semester, I have argued that four historical forces shaped the development of the United States after 1877. These were: 1. The migration of people from throughout the world to the United States as well as the social mobility (both upward and downward) experienced by all people within the nation; 2. The efforts to expand (and restrict) democracy, equality, and individual rights in the U.S.; 3. The rise of a capitalist economic system and the subsequent (and recurring) reorganization of Americans daily lifewhatever their social status or region; and ***4. The effort to create a multi-racial, democratic social order in a very diverse nation. (My Choice)*** In this project, you will choose the one force that you think was most responsible for the development of the United States after 1877 and formulate an argument that defends your choice and demonstrates why you think the others were relatively less important. Keep in mind that there is really no correct answer for this assignment. Each of the four choices outlined above is a valid option. That said, there are correct and incorrect ways of completing this assignment, and you should therefore play close attention to the requirements. Project Requirements 1. General: You will submit a four-page paper. This is a hard space limit. If your paper is less than 3.5 pages long, I will penalize it. If your paper is more than 4.5 pages long, I will penalize it. Title pages, endnote pages, and bibliographies do not count toward (or against) the space limit. 2. Thesis: Your paper will have a thesis. (Something like Force X exerted the most decisive influence on American history after 1877.) It should appear in the first paragraph of the paper, if not the first sentence. Your conclusion should restate your thesis. 3. Organization: About half of your papers body should be dedicated to defending the importance of the force you selected. The other half should demonstrate why you think others were less important. I expect you to outline (I do not need to see it; Ill know). Dont use topic headings. This is a short paper, and they just eat up space. 4. Sources: You should use both the textbook and the videos. Parenthetical citations are fine. For the textbook, they should look like this (Keene, 413). For the videos, they should look like this ([video title], [Min]: second). Here is an example (World War I, 19:22). Race Inequalities
In the Editor’s Introduction to Section One: Theorizing Race, Racism, and Race Inequalities (textbook), we are introduced to the concept of color-blind racism which, based in the work of Bonilla-Silva (2013), is defined as a racial ideology that explains contemporary racial inequality as the outcome of nonracial dynamics (Golash-Boza 2016:45). Thus, rather than linking racist ideology to structural and individual racism, we cite other causes such as, economic factors, or differences in behavior or culture. Bonilla-Silva (2013) uses several frameworks to illustrate how color-blind racism works: (1) abstract liberalism, (2) naturalization, (3) minimization of racism, and (4) cultural racism. Discuss one of these strategies in a well-developed initial post. Your initial post should include a definition of your selected strategy, and your original thoughts, and ideas on how this strategy contributes to color-blind racism. Make sure that you offer a critical analysis. Integrate the text and/or supplementary scholarly material into your initial post. If you choose to use personal experience, make sure that these experiences fit into the larger scheme of structural racism and/or individual racism. Bonilla-Silva, Eduardo. 2013. The American Civil War Era The Civil War left a lasting impact on the United States, shaping the next several decades for the country. How would success have affected their relationship with the North as westward expansion continued? How would the Confederacy have established international relationships? Consider the resources they had as a country, their economy, and the policies of Jefferson Davis and his government. The effects of the Civil War didn’t cease with the end of the Reconstruction Period. Connect and consider how the changes during the Reconstruction era affected the efforts for equality in the U.S. through the Civil Rights era to the present. >>> If I had to choose, I would choose this option, but I’m open to your advice. While the Civil War had an indelible mark on U.S. history, the resolution of the war had consequences for many other foreign nations that were dealing with the issues of slavery and expansion.
