Is the GDP Still Accurate in the Digital Age? GDP is the sum of all income earned in a country during a year. Alternatively, it can be thought of as the value of all products in an economy during a year. But do income and production measure happiness? The way we measure GDP can both overstate and understate people’s happiness and well-being. It understates economic activity and well-being when it does not take into account production that is not exchanged in a market (grandma providing free baby-sitting) and leisure time. It overstates well-being when two otherwise identical activities are measured the same even though one produces more pollution. Reply to these questions to begin your discussion: Should we continue to measure GDP as we do now? If you don’t think it should be changed, explain your reasoning. If you think it should be changed, what changes would you recommend, and why?

Applied Research Proposal You began your research proposal in Unit 2 and Unit 3 when you completed the first drafts of the Problem Statement and Literature Review. Now it is time to complete an abbreviated version of a formal research proposal on your criminal justice issue and submit it. The following structure (and page counts) can be used to guide the development of your Applied Research Proposal.  NOTE: If you are proceeding on to CJ598 or HM598, you will NEED TO SAVE your graded Unit 6 assignment, as it will form the basis of your Unit 1 Assignment in CJ598 or HM598. Please read one of the following Supreme Court decisions (you will need to look them up online): Lawrence v Texas (2003), Gonzales v Raich (2005), Kelo v New London (2005), King v Burwell (2015) or Obergefell v Hodges (2015); then given what you have read about federalism in chapter 3 explain briefly in a two-page essay whether you believe the case was correctly decided based upon your understanding of federalism. Strong essays will engage in legal reasoning in the case. Please do not editorialize over policy or provide an opinion piece applying your personal morals. It is quite possible that you may be in support of gay marriage morally and find the legal reasoning applied by the dissenters valid in regard to how they apply the principles of federalism. Or vice versa. In addition, I may be in favor of universal healthcare but find that the legal reasoning applied in King v Burwell to be incorrect or vice versa.
