Contemporary Public Policy Paper Assignment Overview For your final assignment, you will examine the rapidity of change in our contemporary society and what happens when a public policy outlives its original intent. You will analyze the theory of Social Construction of Reality and how public policy is influenced by societal, political, and economic factors. You will choose an existing public policy and conduct an evaluation of that policy. The evaluation will be done in the form of a 10–12 page research paper that can be written in one of two options. Choose one option. Assignment Options Option 1: Pivotal Events in Contemporary Society Think of a public policy that has changed in contemporary society after a pivotal event. Examples: Pearl Harbor attack. Oklahoma City bombing. World Trade Center attacks. What was the impact of this event? How did it change societal structure? How did it affect public policy? Examine both the societal structure and the impact on public policy. Elaborate on ethical considerations. Assignment Instructions Along with the overarching ideas from the option you choose, be sure to address the following in your research paper: Explain the evolution of the public policy in society. Use the Theory of Social Construction of Reality to explain how organizational structure and environment impact public policy. Analyze how societal factors drove the evolution of the public policy. Evaluate the structure and purpose of the public policy. Evaluate the challenges that the federalist structure of the United States governmental system presents for the public policy. Recommend changes or modifications to the public policy based on the analysis of its evolution.

By Saturday, 11:59 p.m. ET: Submit a 350-word paper that includes the following: Analyze any insights about the human resource management practices you gained from reviewing the three government agency websites.  Summarize each agency’s organization.

The paper should specifically examine the requirements for becoming a police officer, but may also consider other criminal justice jobs such as probation officers, officers of the court, and correction officers (especially if you intend to seek employment in one of those fields). The paper should examine the process as it currently exists and its effectiveness. What personal characteristics are desirable? Which should be avoided? How can they be identified? Do (and should) potential employers consider criminal history? Drug use? Credit? Driving record? Academic records? Mental Health? Personal references? The paper should give an overview of the process, and your position on that process, ie., is it effective? too lenient or strict? If you were in charge, how would you ensure you are hiring quality employees?

What are the milestones in the development of firearms identification? What is the most fundamental purpose of investigation? What is ‘dactylography’ and why is it significant? What is an example of a “plain view” seizure by a police officer?

Compare and contrast the facts in both cases. How was the Anti Cyber-squatting Consumer Protection Act applied in these cases? Present an argument to support a person who purchased a domain name years before the name became famous. Should they be found guilty of cyber-squatting? Should a woman who uses illicit drugs, or abuses licit drugs, during pregnancy be criminally held responsible for child abuse? What action (if any) do you believe should be taken with such a person?

Follow Up Question-    File attached.. You present an interesting analogy when you state that employees must know the policies of the organization just as you need to know the law of the land. It brings to mind an interesting question.   Question – If High-Class Healthcare had a member of its senior leadership that regularly operated in contradiction to policy, what course of action would you recommend? Is there ever a case where policy needs to become more flexible than user behavior?

Research and review a mentoring program in your area or state. Do you believe these types of programs are effective? Why or Why not?
