M4 Written Assignment: Immigration Immigration has long been a major social issue in the United States, and is often controversial. As a “nation of immigrants”  the United States has long struggled with who should be allowed to enter the nation, what rights they will have while here and how much immigration is desirable, among other issues.  For this paper, please provide a discussion of how immigration has been debated in the United States over the past five years.  Begin by researching the immigration process. How long does it take? What are the time and financial requirements? What is the difference between standard immigration and asylum processes? What groups of potential immigrants are advantaged and what groups are disadvantaged by the process?  Next, identify what arguments have been made by people who support increasing immigration, protecting immigrant rights and safety and/or following current asylum laws? What arguments have been made by people who want to decrease immigration, remove rights from immigrants and who oppose current asylum laws? What challenges might new immigrants face after they are settled? What role does racism and social deviance play in their experience and the overall debate about immigration? Research the topic, using a minimum of three academic sources. Analyze the issue using the information, concepts, and terms that are used in the textbook and content guide readings and videos.   Your analysis should be approximately 5 pages, double-spaced. Remember to cite your references in APA style. Be sure to proofread carefully! Discuss the evidence on the different types of displacement found in the research. How much displacement occurs? What type of displacement is most evident in a community in South Florida? (pick a South Florida community to discuss) Refer to research studies in your answer.

Discuss the political culture of Texas. If you had to explain it to someone who knew nothing about government, how would you describe it? Do you accept what Professor Elazar has identified as the dominant political culture in Texas? Then, apply TX’s political culture to the issues of race relations and government regulation of the economy, what will likely happen to these issues? Part 2 Provide an understanding of the relationship between the national and state governments. Explain which powers are held by the national government, which powers are reserved to the states, and those powers shared by both the national and state governments. Be sure to include an understanding of the national supremacy clause contained in Article VI of the U.S. Constitution.

Do you think the Three Strikes Law is an effective crime deterrent? Why or why not? Texas Judiciary Assignment Texas has an unusual appeals process for judicial cases. District courts, where trials on matters of fact are held, are separated into different types according to the kind of cases they hear. You may notice when you vote in county elections, there are civil courts, criminal courts, probate courts, family courts, etc. All these cases are appealed to a court that has jurisdiction in all of those areas. The First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals, which meet in Houston, hear all kinds of criminal and civil cases. After that, however, the process splits again. Criminal cases go to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Civil cases go to the Texas Supreme Court. Estate of Fabian Escobedo. (18-0852 ),” decided on June 12, 2020. Fabian Escobedo was a truck driver who worked for Mo-Vac Service Company, a company out of Dilley, Texas, with a fleet of tank trucks servicing oil and gas drilling sites. Escobedo was killed when his rig ran off the highway and rolled over. His estate sued Mo-Vac, saying his death was caused by his falling asleep at the wheel due to fatigue from being “forced to work grueling hours,” and presented pretty strong evidence of reprehensible behavior by Mo-Vac. Because Mo-Vac participates in the state’s workers’ compensation system, though, a 1916 law says that Escobedo’s benefits payable through workers’ compensation are the “exclusive remedy” for this unless it can be proven that Mo-Vac basically wanted the accident to happen and believed that the his death was substantially certain to result from it – a nearly impossible standard for a plaintiff to prove in a lawsuit like this. Write a 2 – 5 page essay explaining the facts of the case and how the court ruled. What did Chief Justice Hecht say about the court’s reasoning in his majority opinion? What is a concurring opinion, and what did Justice Guzman say in hers? Note the unusual step taken by Justice Guzman in urging the Texas Legislature to take a look at the workers’ compensation law next year. Is that an appropriate role for a judge?
