“My Grandmother’s Story” Based on the words of Virginia Woolf…. We know the stories of our grandparents, where did they live, what did they do, but do we know our grandmothers’ stories? ….. I want you to write your Grandma’s Story. While writing this, I want you to think about the topics we talked about in class and make an assessment from the perspective of gender equality. This task aims to make the lives, labor, and achievements of women visible, who are made invisible by patriarchal structures. I want you to discuss issues such as when and where she was born, whether she was educated, did she work, did she get married at a young age, how old she got married, did she choose her husband, how was her relationship with her husband, did she own any property. You can also do it in the form of an interview. If your grandmother is not alive, you can ask your mother, aunt, father or other elder relatives. Was she born / lived in a village or a city? How was her relationship with her parents? Has she been trained? Has she been removed from education? How were her clothes, ready-made or sewn by herself? Was there any fashion she was influenced by? How was her stuff in the house? Does she play an instrument? Is she a professional? Did she work? If she studied, gained a profession and did not work, the reasons for not entering the profession? How old was she married, did she choose her husband, how / was her relationship with her husband? Number of children? Was she a mother willingly? Does she have any property? (House, field, car…) Were there any restrictions on spending her money? How was she having fun? Cinema, theater, eating and drinking outside, etc. Did she travel? Has she been abroad? Has she been exposed to violence? (From father / brother / spouse…) Does she talk about politics, has she ever thought about being involved in politics? Has she been a member of any community or association? How / was her relationship with you? Do you have a word or a memory that left a mark on you?
