The most important primary text material on which you need to focus your study are Books 1, 6, 9, 16, 18, 19, and 22. PREPARATION QUESTIONS 1. Note 1: The above questions are intended to help you to generate the content that you need in order to write one coherent, focused, and unified response that addresses the main essay assignment question.  It is not sufficient to answer each bulleted question one-by-one and then to submit these answers as an essay.  After you have responded to these questions, you will need to shape your responses into one unified paper that responds effectively to the main assignment question. Note 2: To answer the above questions effectively, you need to engage seriously with the Iliad in light of the content discussed in lectures and tutorials.  While no marks will be deducted for using the Internet provided that you reference all of your sources properly, you should be aware that you will still need to offer support for your argument from the assigned edition of the Iliad, in light of the material discussed in lectures and tutorials.  In this sense, Internet material does not replace, but only adds to, the work that you have to do.

Revising isn’t just looking for grammatical errors; editing alone is not revision (though we do want you to edit too). Revision literally means to “see again.” In the revision process, you improve your analytical skills, sometimes challenging your own ideas which can serve to deepen your argument. Examine Ibsen’s “A Doll House,” focusing on the way in which the playwright dramatizes the interconnection between the internal and the external. To what extent are the main characters of the work able to establish a balance between internal and external selves, and why does that matter? The ability to analyze texts rhetorically will be fundamental to your success as writers and, more generally, as individuals who can engage critically with ideas and arguments.
