You may have access to class materials (announcements, PowerPoints, module introductions, and the like) and course readings, but all answers must be your own.  If any information is found to have come from outside the posted class materials and two standalone texts (online analyses and websites, secondary research materials, other students, tutors, family members, etc.), you will not receive credit for that question.   Please answer the following questions.  Each may be answered in 1-2 well-developed paragraphs.  You do not need to create a dialogue or write as the characters; you can just describe and explain.  Do not do extra questions. b)  Margaret Oliphant and Agatha Christie meet one another at an evening party.  What would be their reaction to each other, based on your knowledge of their mindsets that they convey though “The Open Door” and “The Blue Geranium”?     c)  The narrator of “Loose Change” unexpectedly finds herself near Sandy’s convent after having missed her bus.  She decides to go in and talk to Sister Helena of the Transfiguration about her encounter with Laylor.  What would be Sandy’s reaction to her visitor and her story?

Because good writing is always a process, our persuasive essay will be written in two parts: a first draft due this week and a final draft due in week 6. Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length. As you prepare, here are a few reminders for this week’s draft: In week 3 you posted a thesis for peer review. Use the revised thesis, based on your classmates’ and teacher’s feedback as the basis for your persuasive paper. Use your sources to support your thesis. Research and prepare the passages you will consider using. Remember to review methods of paraphrasing, summarizing, and using direct quotations. Prepare the body paragraphs by deciding where to place supporting information. Remember, each paragraph of the paper should act to build the momentum of the argument. Apply pathos, logos, and ethos whenever possible.

Investigate various challenges (Civil War, Reconstruction, Manifest Destiny, Great Depression/New Deal, Civil Rights Movement, etc…) the United States has faced in maintaining the republic. Based upon your investigations, choose one of these challenges and create a research design that includes a proposal, annotated bibliography, and an outline/abstract. Your research question should be centered on how your chosen challenge affected the relationship between the American people and their government. Proposal: Write a 200-300-word synopsis of your chosen research question based on the challenge that you chose. Informative Annotated Bibliography: Find a minimum of eight sources, half of which must be primary sources, that support your research question. Discuss how each source supports or contradicts your research question. Please see the GCU Student Success Center resource, Preparing Annotated Bibliographies for additional information. Research Summary: Write a 500-750-word summary based upon your research and revise your research question. Did the sources you find change your research question in any way?

Actual question: Has the globalization of journalism allowed it to become increasingly ‘free’ from external constraints like governmental controls and corporate or commercial pressures? Or is journalism, based on the principle of freedom of expression, on a global scale increasingly under threat? Criteria: Identify a relevant example of media which allows you to explore the issues or concepts implicated by the question.  Research the existing academic literature on your topic, concepts and example.  Offer a response to the question that critically analyzes the trends and issues involved with your topic.

Directions: take two (2) pieces of feedback you received, preferably ones that provide a more interesting bit of analysis than ‘I misspelled these words’ or ‘my formatting was off,’ and explain the effect they had on your paper.  In each case, cite the comment, cite the part of the paper that the comment was a reference to, then show me how you changed your paper to reflect the change suggested by this comment.  Throughout this process, explain why each was a meaningful change to your paper, how it makes you think differently about your writing, possible repercussions for your future work, how it improved (or didn’t!) your final paper, etc. I expect at least 250-300 words of original writing per piece of feedback that you analyze, not including the word count of your citations themselves.  Reminder: the intention of this assignment is to give you some writing that can be pretty much directly included in your Reflective Introduction essay, with perhaps some minor tweaking.

For your chosen selection(article attached) write a 2-3 page paper analyzing the arguments made by the author. Identify the elements of the Toulmin model present in their arguments. What are their claims?  What reasons do they give to support them?  Why are those reasons considered persuasive? Provide examples. What evidence is used to support their points? What arguments is that evidence used to support? Provide examples. Paper Requirements: Paper should be 2-3 pages, double-spaced, 1” margins, Times New Roman Font, with a clear header identifying author of the paper. Paper should be in MLA format for in text citations and bibliography Specific examples from the article, essay, etc. should be provided in the paper. No additional research is needed, focus on the arguments made by the author. You do not need to agree or disagree with the points made in the example, just to identify as many examples of the Toulmin model as you can find.

Question: What is strategy and why is it important? What are the most significant challenges organisations face in trying to develop and implement a strategy in today’s modern and competitive landscape? Task Length: 2000 words +/- 10% – The purpose of this task is to assess your knowledge of the theory and readings we have covered in this unit. For this task you are required to write an essay in response to the question below. This is considered a persuasive essay; hence we expect you to adopt a stance, and use theory, research and examples to justify your answer. – Your essay should contain an introduction, body and conclusion. (focus more on the challenges that organisations face in trying to develop and implement a strategy in today’s modern and competitive landscape.), find articles, author that support your point of view about ‘what is strategy?’ – There is no requirement for an assignment cover sheet, title page, table of contents, and please do not use headings or sub-headings, figures or tables. Use a standard 12-point font Times New Roman with double line spacing, and page numbers. – Your reference list should appear on a separate page at the end of your assignment. This reference list is not included in your word count; in-text citations are included in the word limit. Examples of real organisations must be used to support your argument.  -In addition, your essay must use a minimum of eight (8) academic sources (i.e. journal articles, not the prescribed textbook), which are cited correctly according to the Harvard Referencing Style.

Essays must be typed on 8.5×11″ white paper (black ink, double-spaced, one-inch margins, and 12pt typeface). Essays must have page numbers. Work must be well organized and neat in presentation.Essays must be a minimum of 2,000 words and must fully develop and explain all relevant aspects of the topic. There is no maximum number of words; write as much as you like. Essays must contain sufficient detail, explanation, and analysis to demonstrate an understanding of the events, issues, and ideas presented in the topic chosen. The content of an essay, NOT the time or effort expended in its preparation, determines the grade. Essays may be submitted in hard copy or electronic copy.
