 Describe the ambivalence/partisanship of the early republic.  What divisions were apparent in the formation of the first dominant political identities?   How were these influenced by and made manifest in growing regional, racial, and class differences?  What were the major ideological issues, especially regarding liberty and the role of government?

You may have heard of Aesop, the writer of the fables we typically think of as children’s bedtime stories. Not so quick, however, Aesop was born a slave and earned his freedom by learning to read and write. It is alleged that Socrates, Ancient Greek Philosophy, put his fables to music.
