Your papers must be typed, double spaced, and given a title. It must be submitted via Google Docs with the file name at the top as your first and last name. Please make sure to give me Edit privileges. See the Syllabus for an example of how to do this. The font must be Times New Roman 12 pt.  Your margins should be 1 inch on both sides and 1 on top and bottom.  Also, make sure you include the page numbers and observe proper MLA style.  I will take 5 points off if any one of these requirements is not observed.  Also, there will be a one-letter-grade penalty for late work unless you make arrangements with me for an extension before the due date.  Find at least two articles on those particular selections and/or its author(s). Use citations from those scholarly articles, as well as the novel, itself, to make an argument about what the novel is trying to say or is about. Every story or poem is making at least one argument or a claim. Explain that argument/claim to me. Do NOT try to find the author’s opinion of what the work means. The author is dead. What he/she set out to accomplish does not necessarily have anything to do with what the literature DOES accomplish. Tell me what YOU think the work means, not what the author says it means. This is your argument. Nearly any argument is possible, but you need to be able to somehow justify this, possibly by backing it up with at least one of your additional sources. In other words, at least one of your articles ideally will somehow support your argument. The other articles can also support or could show a counter-argument that you might playoff. Perhaps you found an article that has some interesting insight into the text but ultimately takes the analysis in a direction you do not agree with. You can discuss what you agree with and what you disagree with in that article as you make your own argument about the text.

This assignment focuses on your ability to: create effective thesis statements; synthesize research, text support, and personal analyses into a cohesive essay; defend an argument; properly citie researched material in APA format.   The purpose of completing this assignment is: as a student, career professional, and individual, learning how to defend your side of an argument with data, experience, and valid information is of paramount importance. As a student at Post, use this assignment to master the objectives listed above, particularly APA citation and reference page formatting. The essay should conform to APA formatting and citation style. • Use the third-person, objective voice, avoiding personal pronouns such as “I,” “you,” “we,” etc. • Use APA format for in-text citations and references when using outside sources and textual evidence. • Please be cautious about plagiarism. Make sure to use in-text citations for direct quotes, paraphrases, and new information.   Helpful Notes: • Thesis: o Your thesis is the response to the prompt question plus the supporting areas that you will be using to defend your argument. Be sure to have a thesis that clearly states which conflict you feel is the most important and drives the other conflicts. o Your thesis could begin with, “In the play, Fences, August Wilson uses the conflict of   to drive the other conflicts and elements of the story as evidenced by…. • Sources and evidence: o Be sure to use things that you have learned about Wilson’s life and his writings. For example, if you are analyzing Troy and his father’s conflict, you could bring in information that you researched about Wilson’s relationship with his own father. o Include direct quotations from the play. To cite a direct quote from a play, the format is: ? “quotation” (Wilson,1985, act #, scene #, line #). OR ? As Wilson (1985) writes, “quote” (act#, scene #, line#). o Use at least three outside sources. Two of them could be from your previous research essay. Biographical Research Paper Guidelines: Make sure that each paragraph has a topic sentence and each paragraph should be between three and eight sentences. The most successful essays are those that cite many specific examples and that include short illustrative quotations from the sources. Be sure to use citations when quoting directly from the sources or when paraphrasing. Proofread your paper to avoid common grammatical/spelling errors. More than five spelling/proofreading errors will result in an ungraded paper. You will be assessed a ten percent penalty and given until the next class period to redo the paper. Your paper must be double-spaced and typed. At least three sources (books and articles) should be consulted to complete the research paper. The paper must have 1″ margins for the left, right, and bottom margins. The font must be 12 pic Times New Romans. Your name, course title, and date must be single-spaced in the top right corner of your paper. The title of the paper should be double-spaced and centered under the date. Double-space and begin your paper. The essay portion must be double-spaced with the page numbers in the top right corner of the page beginning with page 2. Footnotes or endnotes are required. The selected bibliography or works cited page must appear at the end of the paper. Your paper should be at least three (3) pages in length.

Kinesiology is the major You will create an annotated bibliography of 3 sources related to your academic discourse community. The sources that you find do not need to be on the same topic but they all must be related to your discourse community/field. For this annotated bibliography you will find the following source types: -A scholarly journal article (should be from an academic journal, not an article from a popular source or trade publication/journal) -A chapter from a book (can be a textbook used for course in your major) -An academic text written in a course in your major. After you have created an MLA or APA citation for each source (use what your major/DC uses), you will create an annotation paragraph for each of the following categories: Provide a summary of each source: Give a brief overview of the text from start to finish, state the overall main idea of the text, identify important examples and supporting details, and state the author’s main conclusion from the information presented. Provide a rhetorical analysis of each source: You must discuss all of the rhetorical elements- context, purpose, audience, message, and tone. You must also provide textual evidence for your rhetorical analysis of the text (textual evidence not needed for context) Provide a genre analysis of each source: State the genre of the text. Describe the conventions of the genre in detail. For this section you are focusing specifically on the rhetorical choices of the writer(s), including format, evidence, and organization. Also discuss how this text represents the values and standards of your discipline. You will also create a cover page for your annotated bibliography that includes a title, your name, course information, and an abstract. Your abstract should have a brief introduction of your major, overview of the sources included in your bibliography, and discussion of how creating this bibliography developed a preparedness for the writing and research done in your major.

Book Critique and Policy Review Paper Instructions In Module/Week 4, you will write a book review on the The Sovereignty Solution by Simons et al. In Module The Book Critique and Policy Review Paper must be 5–7 pages, not including the title and reference page. Format the body of your review in 4 main sections: summary, critique, application, and policy review. Do not summarize or critique the chapters chronologically. Consider the book as a whole. Avoid excessive quotations. State the authors’ viewpoints in your own words and give specific page references when paraphrasing. Be sure to review the Book Critique and Policy Review Paper Grading Rubric before starting this assignment. Each submission must be in a Microsoft Word document. • Summary Summarize the main theme of the book. What is the overall perspective, purpose, or argument of the book? Does the argument make sense? You can offer agreement or disagreement and identify where you find the work exemplary or deficient in its knowledge, judgments, or organization. Provide concrete evidence for your assertions. Support judgments with references from the textbook reading in this course and other scholarly resources. All citations must be in current Turabian. Be sure that your evaluation is balanced, respectful, and fair. Control the tone of your critique. • Application This section must demonstrate how the book has enhanced your understanding of current public policy issues. Why is this topic important today? How can this information be used in forming and maintaining a strong foreign policy? • Policy Review Identify and assess a current public policy issue in current events in light of the theories presented in this material. Do not merely state what the policy is. Explain the policy and provide a short but detailed briefing on the policy. Additionally, state if the policy is good or bad based on the perspective you gained in reading this book. You must also introduce new ideas that go beyond the book if they complement ideas you have gleaned from reading in the book.
