Read sections of the APA ethics code that relate to counseling, psychotherapy, and the therapeutic relationship. The code can be found at the APA Web site.. Describe a hypothetical scenario in which a client tries to get you to violate a professional boundary. How can you effectively deal with this, maintaining a good therapeutic relationship with the client while at the same time acting in accordance with the ethics code of the APA? You are to locate one source of pop psychology and one source of empirical research and compare and contrast the merit of the information in each as follows: Begin by searching in the appropriate place for 2 sources that are fittingly related to each other on any topic in Psychology. Empirical research can only be found in professional journals. The easiest way to find a professional journal article is by accessing PsycINFO through the portal at my.saintleo.edu then locating the online Library. Pop psychology sources are newspapers, news magazines, tabloids, and other self-help articles found either online or on store shelves. Examples include articles by Dr. Phil, Dear Abby, Dr. Laura, Tony Robbins, etc. Articles in Psychology Today and WorldHealth.net are pop psychology and, although they may report on or refer to empirical research, they are not professional journal articles. To prepare your essay, you should think critically about the merit of the information in each article by asking the following questions about each: a.) What is the main issue, problem, or intention of the article? b.) In what way(s) does the article investigate various points of view and assumptions? c.) What evidence is provided to support the issue? d.) In what way(s) does the article discuss consequences and implications of the reasoning provided? e.) In what way(s) does the information provided help you make an informed decision about the purpose? Now, focus on the answers to the above questions and compare and contrast the 2 sets of information. Determine what your thesis is and state it clearly and concisely. It should briefly introduce your topic but more importantly should indicate that your purpose is to compare and contrast the merit of the pop psychology article with the merit of the empirical article. This will be the first sentence of your essay. In the body of your essay, you may do a whole-to-whole comparison of the 2 sets of information or you may do a (less common) point-to-point comparison. For a whole-to-whole comparison, address the information about one of the articles by discussing its merit using the critical thinking concepts above, then, do the same for the second article. For point-by-point, you should address the first important point about one article then that same point about the other, discuss a second point about one then the other, and so on. You will want to be very thorough in the body as this is a very large percentage of your grade on the essay. Your conclusion should summarize how the merit of the pop psychology article compares and contrasts with the merit of the empirical article, thus reaffirming your thesis without restating it. This is where you conclude with inferences, clearly address implications or consequences of accepting the given information, and culminate any assertions. I want to teach psychology in abnormal psychology, neuropsychology, abnormal psychology, or behavioral evolution. After terminating my training and graduating, I would be eager to join the American Psychological Association (APA) to network my career and acquire educational chances. As well, I am striving to achieve such dreams within the shortest time, considering that the number of psychology teachers is rising fast and is estimated to be 16% by 2024 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). The Bureau of Labor and Statistics shows that psychology teachers’ salary scale was $70,260 to $133,810 per year by 2015 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). The lowest educational qualification for a psychology teacher in college or university level training. The teacher is expected to have a degree, masters, or doctoral in psychology-related courses and working experience of between 2 to 5 years. At the College or University teaching, there is no license required. In addition, I may become an associate in the APA is essential to proceed with education by holding conferences. Career path 2 Alternatively, I would wish to become a Cognitive and Behavioral Psychologist. This career requires a bachelor’s degree, masters, or doctoral educational achievements and working experience of not less than five years. The profession does not require licensing. Instructions In our reading this week, we learned about the processes of sensation and perception. Although they are two different processes, one often has an impact on the other. Some individuals aren’t aware of how much they rely on vision or hearing in their everyday lives, versus others who have vision or hearing impairments who may rely more heavily on their other senses and perceive the world differently than others. Please choose ONE option below for either diminishing your vision or hearing with the goal of becoming more conscious of the relationship between sensation and perception. Note: Please be very careful when performing these activities. I suggest doing them in a familiar environment, such as your home, and having a companion present. Option 2: Hearing Spend between from 15- 30 minutes “observing” without using your hearing. Rely on your sight, smell, touch or taste (if appropriate). You can use earplugs or noise cancelling headphones (if you have them) to aid in diminishing your hearing. During this time try to perform several different tasks that you would normally, such as watching television (muted), or walking outside all while not using your hearing. Reflection:  What new questions pop up for you in response to what you have read?  Keep a rough note sheet at hand as you read.  Begin with questions like, “What would I like further information on?” “Where do I not agree/strongly agree with the author?” or “What bothers me/excites me about this content?”  This section should be one page.  Application:  How does information in  the book influence how you are going to continue your own personal growth process?  What actions or changes are you going to make in your life as a result of your learning?  Your response here is a matter of obedience first, questions later.  Be precise in summarizing your action steps.
