The course project will focus on the impact and relevance of behavioural neuroscience in the field of psychology as a whole. For Part 1 of the course project, you will develop a PowerPoint presentation. The project will be developed in three parts in three individual units that will culminate in Unit VII of this course. Research methodology has certainly contributed to the advancement of biological psychology. In this assignment, focus on one advancement that has resulted from any research methodology covered in this unit. Then, create a PowerPoint presentation with a minimum of eight slides. Make the following points about the advancement of your choice: Name the advancement (e.g., new medication, new treatment) and the researcher who discovered this advancement. Indicate the research methodology that was used to discover the advancement. Indicate the research that occurred in order to discover the advancement. Name the part of the brain that was targeted. Discuss what applicable neurotransmitters were targeted and the effect on synaptic transmission. Discuss the pathways of how it affects the neurons in the brain (as applicable). Give insights or comments obtained from additional research. Create a media slide as a part of the eight-slide count. Media includes graphs, charts, or pictures that you have created. Please do not simply insert an image from the web. Create a title slide and reference slide; these will not count toward meeting the eight-slide minimum for this PowerPoint presentation. The intent of social psychology research has been and still is to explain how circumstances are more a powerful determinant of individual behavior than our own intuitions lead us to believe. Research on obedience and compliance is focused less on explaining why obedience can be a good thing—which it can—and more on explaining why people obey/comply with demands when they would likely prefer not to or when the demands compel them to do bad things (e.g., the classic Milgram and Stanford Prison studies). Many are familiar with the experience of being tasked by someone in authority (e.g., a teacher, work supervisor, athletic coach) to do something of questionable value and which may be counterproductive. The demand itself appears to be arbitrary and may serve only to establish the authority of the person making it. For this Discussion, you will share social conformity situations that you have experienced and apply social psychology theory to explain your actions in those situations. To Prepare Review the Learning Resources related to conformity and obedience and consider how they would apply to this Discussion. Consider a time when you have experienced when compliance with a task was required, even when you believed that time could have been better spent doing something more productive. The task may have come from a teacher, supervisor, coach, or another authority figure. If you complied with the order, reflect on why. If you did not, reflect on why you did not comply. By Day 4 Post an example of a time when you complied with an authorized person’s demand, despite thinking it was not a good use of your time. Please explain why you did. Then, give an example of a time when you refused to comply; explain why. Your post must be informed by social psychology theory and research. This is more or less a straight-up research paper. Choose a topic from the class that interests you, and write a research paper. It is unlikely this paper can be done adequately in less than five pages. It must have 3 peer-reviewed sources or more, though non-peer-reviewed sources may count if relevant (e.g., to give an example of how popular a construct is) or for the broad background. You are encouraged to use more than those three. Citations using APA style are required for full credit. You are more than encouraged to bring a draft to the Instructor or TA to have it proofread. The goal is to have you examine some of the literature that interests you a bit closer and see what kind of recent research has been taking place. Choose articles that are no older than 10 years old if at all possible. Do not use dissertations or theses. Books can be referenced, but are discouraged (they are not peer-reviewed). Topics should be as specific as possible to make your job easier. For example, avoid a broad topic like “extraversion,” and more like “the neural correlates of self-esteem,” or specific, “The use of the IAT in assessing neuroticism.” Double spaced, Spell checked 1-inch margins, Times New Roman. No cover page needed. Spelling and grammar count. Preliminary Grading Scheme: 5 pts.: Three peer-reviewed articles ? 10 years old (unless there are no other ones available and you are really, really into the topic). 5 pts: Grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. are flawless or near flawless. 10 pts: Topic is relevant, doable, and researched. The assignment is taken seriously 10 pts: Findings are presented appropriately and sufficient information is presented. An educated reader would understand what the topic is, what the findings were, etc.

Comprehensive Assignment Throughout this course, you have taken on the role of an I-O psychologist and considered training plans for the individual and the team. For Unit VIII, you will expand upon that idea and focus on the organization. Using the plans that you have developed during this course, devise a training plan for your organization that encompasses elements from individual, team, and leadership skills training. Remember to use headings to divide your paper. Be specific in your training solutions. Address the following in your paper: 1. How are stressors likely to impact your organization? 2. For this scholarly activity, you will explore correctional history in more depth. You will think about how correctional history has impacted our current correctional system. You must include the items listed below. Include key movements in correctional history, found in the unit and your textbook reading.
