Ethical Problems

First, what was experimentally wrong with the Ghostbusters ESP study (video link; refer to videos area or use this link: https://online.fiu.edu/videos/?vpvid=fe511f5c-f4f8-4751-873f-f4f5a58a8d20), and how could it be improved to meet scientific standards? Second, if you were doing this study, what would be your hypothesis, and what would your independent and dependent variables be (make sure to list and label them as IVs and DVs)? Be specific here! (“My independent variable would be …; My dependent variable would be …). Third, how would you make it an experimental (rather than correlational) study (it might help to be specific here as well and define the two types of studies in your response. That is, what is a correlational study and what is an experimental study? I suggest discussing the nature of random assignment here as well as experimental versus control groups)? Finally, what are some of the ethical problems with this study and how would you resolve them?

Chinese Buddhist Sculpture

The assignment needs to answer four questions. 1.Please describe three different styles of Chinese Buddhist sculpture that appeared from the 3rd century through the 8th century. Please relate the formal features of each style to a particular work, identifying the work clearly.  2.How have Chinese works of art discussed in lecture articulated Buddhist beliefs about bodhisattvas and arhats? How do the works make those beliefs vivid to viewers? Please be sure to cite several works and note specific elements and/or features of those works. 3.Please characterize at least two different ways in which paintings of places (specific places or generic ones) have articulated Chinese Buddhist understandings about the world and how people relate to it (e.g with regard to their condition as sentient beings, how to escape that condition, etc.). For the purposes of this question, “the world” can include both the immediate environment in which people lived and the larger Buddhist world system or cosmos. Please be sure to support your answer by citing features of particular works that were presented in lecture. 4.Why do sculptures and paintings associated with Chan Buddhism frequently portray human figures who are not buddhas or bodhisattvas? What ideals do such works illustrate or express? How varied might those ideals be? Please be sure to support your answer by referencing specific examples from lecture and (optionally) the assigned reading. For question 3 and 4, you can only use the sources from: (and the screenshots I uploaded) 1.Dudbridge, Glen. “Buddhist Images in Action: Five Stories from the Tang.”  2.Pekarik, Andrew J. and Stephanie Stokes. “The Cave Temples of Dunhuang.”   3. Bloom, Phillip E. “Ghosts in the Mists: The Visual and the Visualized in Chinese Buddhist Art, ca. 1178.”   4.Brinker, Kanazawa, and Leisinger, “About the Essence of Zen,” “About the History of Zen,”and “Zen Aesthetics and Theory of Art.”  Read: Berger, Patricia. “Preserving the Nation: The Political Uses of Tantric Art in China.”

Gender Ideology

In the article you were asked to read for Question 1, four main theories were advanced for the gendered division of housework:· Relative Resources· Time Availability· Gender Ideology· Macro-Level FactorsThe reasons why women have historically done most of the housework are complicated. If you had to pick just ONE of the four theories to describe why Canadian women did most of the housework in the time period studied in this course (1890 to 1920), which would you choose, and why? Give at least one specific example from the readings or lectures to back up your reasoning.i. Theory Chosen (No marks, just so the TA knows what they’re looking at)ii. Reasoning (for full marks, explain why you think this is a better explanation than the other three theories).iii. Example (cite the source of the example in APA format). For full marks, don’t just list the example, but explain how it connects to your chosen theory.

Hannah Arendt

Week 2 Discussion1.Through the lens of Hannah Arendt, why did she take issue with the way in which Eichmann was tried? Should Israel have pursued Nazi SS-Obersturmbannführer in the manner that they did?https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2011/aug/29/hannah-arendt-adolf-eichmann-banality-of-evil150 words response.student responses examples.Hannah Arendt, as a jewish German, had issues in the way that Eichmann was tried for his actions in the genocide of the jews due to the mentality of the people at that time, resulting in actions unprecedented from a precedented mindset. In the video “Arednt Final Speech”, Hannah stated that “understanding someone is different that forgiving,” and she ultimately agreed on the final verdict on Eichmann’s trial that had him condemned to death. Arednt did not believe that the history of anti-semitism in Germany could be tried. Her issue was from all of the history that had people (minorities) robbed from their own rights with no “positive law”, while at the same time being someone under the rule of a dictatorship would have easily brought a horrible event on mankind due to the lack of mankind. Just look at how many wars, genocides, robbing that was happening during that century and the one before. Humanity had led itself to that point. Also, there are studies that show that naturally when someone is in a position of power (being a police officer, president, etc), someone that is under that control will do anything you tell them whether it is against their morals or not. Eichmann, under the control of Hitler at the time, was not going to say no but even worse was that he saw nothing wrong with proceeding in the horrible actions committed. Now, about what happened to Eichmann being pursed by Israel, I believe, for the most part, Hannah Arednt is saying that it was okay how the situation was handled. The only thing that she wishes had happened, was for Israel to understand the actions of the person and what led to them, rather than the atrocity that was placed upon on the people.

Ethics and Healthcare

ETHICS AND HEALTHCARE Each student is expected to write an Issue Brief of 1000-1500 words, typewritten, double-spaced, no smaller than 10-point sized type and dealing with a topic of ethical or legal importance in behavioral healthcare. It is expected that the Brief will discuss an issue from a cross-disciplinary perspective and will critically analyze the issue while asserting a position on the selected topic. A typical format for the Brief is: 1) state a position; 2) give a short background on the issue so that readers have a basic understanding of the issue; 3) provide support/arguments for the position taken (this may include addressing potential opposing arguments to your position); and 4) conclude with a restatement of your position and summary statement as to why the arguments you presented lead one to conclude that your position is the correct ethical/legal stance. Here is a short, helpful guide to writing position briefs/papers: http://web.archive.org/web/20070316023144/homepages.uhwo.hawaii.edu/~writing/position.htm. Examples of position papers are also available on the web (just google “position paper examples”).  You need to be persuasive (remember this is not just an informational paper, but rather a position brief where your advocate/argue for something to happen), and try to convince the reader that your position is correct in only a few pages – so you need to select what you include carefully. Examples of possible position statements
