[SOLVED] Cholesterol

Module 04 Reflection and Written Assignment – Groupthink Step 1: Case Scenario Read the following case first; then proceed to the next steps. You work at a research lab and are 1 of the 6 researchers. Philip, a well-known and highly respected scientist in the lab has offered a theory that the cholesterol in eggs can have serious negative health effects on children. He cites 5 case studies done in different regions of the country over a two-year period and all studies suggest that negative health issues can be linked to egg consumption. His presentation is very compelling and the research lab has been offered significant amounts of government grant money to promote the findings of the cholesterol study. The lab goes forward with the cholesterol research and assigns the other 5 researchers the task of furthering the study. After one year of research and much economic success for everyone at the research lab, a meeting is convened to assess the progress of the program. At this meeting, Rose, a second scientist with a long history of field research experience offers the theory that while there could be a relational effect of the cholesterol in eggs to children, she argues that there is no causal relationship and these findings should be published. The group is stunned as no one has ever challenged Philip’s work and his previous studies on other areas have all been accepted by the scientific community. Rose is excoriated by the group and is told by the research lab that Philip’s reputation speaks for itself and her study is not credible and will not be pursued. Two years later, a rival lab proves Rose’s theory and Philp’s research lab loses all government funding. Step 2: Reflection Part Ask yourself: How can it be that a group of intelligent, experienced researchers would not explore the possibility of another theory in their study? What is the importance of dissenting opinions? Do I listen to and fully understand the point of view of the person expressing a dissenting opinion, especially if that person is the sole voice in the room. Do I arrive at my opinion without sufficient critical analysis? Am I basing my position on assumptions that I presume to be true, but that perhaps are not sufficiently tested or researched? After you have thought through your position on this scenario, apply your thinking to this week’s philosophers and complete Step 3 – the writing part of this assignment. Step 3: Writing Part For the Module 04 Assignment, in 2-3 pages share your insights and support as you address the following areas in your paper: In the introduction (1-2 paragraphs), summarizes how Locke and Rousseau might respond to this case of the research lab and groupthink and majority opinion if they were confronted with this situation. In the analysis section (2-3 paragraphs), address how Locke and Rousseau might explain majority rule and the social contract to illustrate their philosophy in dealing with groupthink? Support your analysis with quotes or paraphrases from the philosophers. In the application of the philosophy (1-2 paragraphs), share your recommendations for how this case could be solved. Use APA format and citation when writing your assignment and incorporate research/support from credible sources. Remember that the written portion is Part 3. READ EVERYTHING. APA format. In-text citations. 2-3 pages. Also, focus on philosophers Locke and Rousseau. For more information on Cholesterol  read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholesterol

[SOLVED] Workplace Health And Safety

Background Research Collect and analyze information needed to understand the production process and the hazards involved in each stage of the cotton dying process (chemicals, machinery, equipment, health effects, processes, controls, legislation, standards, guidelines, SDS, studies, statistics, reports, etc.).  These are the stages (You ONLY have to research #5. #6, #7, IGNORE THE FIRST 4): Powdered dyes are stored in metal containers in the dye room (1)  They are scooped out of the containers by hand, measured, and carried in paper bags to the mixing room (2) where the dye solution is mixed.  Depending on the dye being prepared the powder is mixed in open metal containers with other agents—methanol or sodium hyposulphite—and cold, warm, or boiling water.  These agents are stored in large metal drums (3) and either poured directly or removed through a plunger-type spout located on the top of the drum. Workers involved in this stage complain that they can wane the dyes and that fumes from the mixing agents are powerful. The only ventilation is a small overhead fan located in the roof at the rear of the mixing room (4). The mixed dyes are then carried manually to the dyeing vats, and poured by hand into the reserve tanks (5). These tanks have a metal cover and feed via piping to the main dyeing tank (7).  Other chemicals and bleaching agents are added to the uncovered expansion tanks (6) that also feed into the main vats (7). The spools of cotton to be dyed are brought to the dye room on a pushcart, pushed by one worker. The combined mass of the cart and spools often reaches 680 kg (1500 lb.).   Utilize the following Research Links:  https://bb-gbc.blackboard.com/bbcswebdav/pid-5402952-dt-content-rid-72055048_1/xid-72055048_1 https://bb-gbc.blackboard.com/bbcswebdav/pid-5402952-dt-content-rid-72055047_1/xid-72055047_1 – Also, include at least one article reference from the Occupational Health and Safety Canada Magazine.  SDS can be located through the CCOHS Academic Support Program link accessed via http://ccinfoweb.ccohs.ca.gbcprx01.georgebrown.ca/asp/ Essay: First half of the essay –  problem-solve and synthesize your information to discuss the hazards involved in each stage of the production process. Apply relevant research on the hazards and health effects to the workers. (Remember this is a research paper and extensive research needs to be integrated into your discussion). The second half of the essay – develop detailed recommendations to reflect a higher priority and accountability to Organizational Health and Safety. First, overall Organizational Initiatives should be discussed in detail such as policies and programs, JHSC’s etc. Then, for each hazard identified in the process, recommendations should be described in detail and prioritized according to ‘The Principles of Control’ (At the Source, Along the Path, and At the Worker level).  Relevant research and legislation should be incorporated in your discussion to support your recommendations. Note, this research paper should be completed in essay format (no point form). You are not merely repeating information from the case, but instead are conducting a significant amount of research to understand the processes involved and to address the requirements. Appendices: Any diagrams, charts, SDS’s etc. should be included in an Appendix after discussing in the essay. References: References for research must be properly cited using the APA or MLA method of documentation.  References to legislation in the Pocket Ontario OHS Act & Regulations need to include section, sub-section, clause etc. and you need to state whether you are referring to the OHS Act, or state the name of the particular Regulation that you are referencing, for example, WHMIS Regulation, Regulation for Industrial Establishments etc.  Legislation should not be merely listed – it needs to be properly applied to your recommendations. See examples below. Examples: a) The employer needs to develop an occupational health and safety policy and program, as is required under Section 25(2)(j) of the OHS Act. This includes detailed information on..….. which relates to this case. b) This workplace has 500 employees and therefore requires a JHSC of a minimum of 4 people, as discussed in Section 9(6) of the OHS Act.   We would even recommend further that the committee……  c) As it states in The Noise Regulation, Section 2(4), employers must ensure that employees are not exposed to a noise level greater than 85 db. In order to control for noise at the source, it is recommended that …….. d) Workers are required to wear appropriate eye protection according to the Regulation for Industrial Establishments Section 81. [SOLVED] Early Stages of WWIII

You were asked to ponder and expound upon whether you thought that we were in the early stages of WWIII. At that time, the U.S. had a $17 trillion debt. Well, that number has gone up and is today $18+ trillion and rapidly climbing: http://www.usdebtclock.org/ We also discussed how ISIS had documents on how to weaponize Yersinia pestis, the invasion of Crimea and Ukraine by Russia, and al Qaeda’s idealogy and mission to eliminate “all non-believers” from the face of planet Earth. I asked you to consider the evildoers of today and whether they reminded you of what had happened more than 75 years ago, resulting in at the beginning of WWII. Remember? Most of you—not all—opted and eloquently wrote that you did not think we were in the early stages of WWIII. Have any of you changed your mind, one way or the other? In order for you to reply this time, break down what has happened. For example, what’s new in the Middle East? ISIS?  Kurds?  What’s up with Vladamir Putin and Russia? Who are the Houthis? How close do you think Iran is in having a nuclear weapon, or will they? The more analysis the better. What say you in two to three succinct, sharply-written paragraphs? Once again, this will be the only assignment graded in the Advanced Cyberlab, and it has been designed so that all of you put your lab coats on and visit the lab frequently by linking to the other section found in the lab. Thank you for your consideration.2 pages, APA format, in-text citation.
