View the 15 minute Ted Talk video on America’s Native Prisoners of War which is in Learning Module 6. (Will be uploaded as file) Then write a minimum 4-page essay on this video that addresses the following questions.  What do you see as the main differences between the cultural perspective presented in this video on the settling of the American Continent and that which is presented in our history books? How can the American Indian culture legitimately view itself as prisoners of war living confined in a prisoner of war camp and simultaneously the mainstream American culture views its actions toward the Indians and reservations as justified and even helpful? Which do you think is the more accurate perspective? What is our real responsibility toward the American Indian population now given the legacy that our actions in the settling of the American Continent has left with them. What, if any, do you see as your personal responsibility toward the American Indian culture today? Important!!!  In answering these questions, demonstrate knowledge on the theoretical perspectives of Sociology, any social research that relates to this video and the current American Indian situation, and which Sociological concepts you have studied so far that apply to the video.

Read the scenario below and applying the principles of bioethics, create an essay that answers the questions at the end of the description.  Use at least two peer-reviewed sources to support your positions. A 32-year-old woman was admitted to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit following a motor vehicle accident; she had multiple injuries and fractures, with several complications that continued to develop over the first couple of weeks. The patient rapidly developed Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome is on a ventilator and is continuously sedated. Shortly after the patient’s admission, her parents were contacted and remained at her bedside. The parents report that their daughter (the patient) is one week away from having her divorce finalized. The parents also claim that her husband was physically and emotionally abusive to her throughout their five years of marriage. The parents have not notified the husband that hospitalization is ongoing and state that a visit by him would be distressing to the patient if she were aware of it(she is currently sedated). The patient’s soon to be ex-husband is now her legal next of kin. Should the husband participate in treatment decisions the patient cannot make? What are the legal and ethical parameters of this case?

Students should be able to identify and describe various marriage types or relationships as well as explain the benefits and disadvantages of each type. This assignment will help you learn these skills. In an essay (1,000 to 1,500 words), answer to the following prompts: Identify six marriage types or similar relationships. Include traditional and nontraditional forms of marriage or similar relationships.  For each marriage type you identify, name the marriage type and describe the key components. Next, for each marriage type, explain the advantages and disadvantages.   Cite one to three scholarly sources from the GCU library for each marriage type you describe. New Urbanism: Principles of Urbanism describes a philosophy of community design taken from the book Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream. You can either read that text using a Google search or watch the PBS miniseries and read the list of new urbanism principles linked below. The principles suggest that a community should promote walkability, the state of accommodating walking. To do that, the authors recommend the following: Streets should be narrow and sidewalks wide; services should be located close to residences; garages should be in back, off of alleys; houses should be close together and close to the street; and a mixture of homes of varying sizes and costs should be spread throughout the community to promote diversity. The design of the homes themselves should encourage interaction with neighbors and a sense of place. The article Neighborhood Design and Walking Trips in Ten US Metropolitan Areas discusses how neighborhood design impacts walkability in U.S. cities. After reading the article above and researching the New Urbanism Smart Score card criteria, how would you rate your community, the place you are using for your Portfolio Project? How does what you observed in your own community relate to what you read about in Chapter 3 of Public Health Ethics this week as far as the importance of community health? This week, look around where you live to see if you can spot any of these New Urbanism design principles in buildings or neighborhoods. (Keep in mind that the structures would probably be fewer than 10 years old.) Post descriptions of these buildings or neighborhoods along with any information you can find online as to why the project was undertaken. If you can’t find any New Urbanism designs at work where you live, go online and find 3-4 structures or neighborhood elements that illustrate these design principles. Describe their history and why they were built. In your post, also include the following points: Does your community suffer from urban sprawl? Is your community at risk of (greater) urban sprawl in the future? How would New Urbanism designs help to reduce problems you see in your community? Are there any policies that would help reduce urban sprawl in your community?

For example, racism may be displayed by a black person and a white person committing the exact same crime and having the same past criminal history, but the black person receives a harsher sentence.
