Cause and Effect Paper
Purpose: You will study a social issue or environmental issue that has multiple causalities and/or multiple effects. NOTE- THIS IS NOT A RESEARCH ESSAY- You are not providing history or defining your topic. Make sure to have an original title, topic sentence, clear thesis statement, specific details, and clear organizational method for the body paragraphs- see textbook for examples. Introduction: Your introduction is a very important part of your essay. You need to grab your reader’s attention and introduce your topic.. Make sure to have a clear thesis statement with three key ideas that clearly state whether you are discussing causes or effects. *The new shopping center located near Bellbrook, OH has had several effects that include more shopping opportunities, higher traffic accidents, and increased job availability. Also, you will need to use direct support from academic sources to support your claim. Be sure to include in-text citations. Conclusion: Don’t end your paper abruptly. Make sure you wrap up your paper with an interesting conclusion that reaffirms your thesis. The first sentence of the conclusion should be the reiterated thesis statement. Work(s) Cited Page: You should have a works cited page. You will need at least two academic sources to support your claim. Editing: Make sure you have clear topic sentences in each paragraph. Use transitions so your paper flows from one idea to the next. Edit carefully for run-ons, fragments, misspellings, and wrong words. Read your paper aloud to find mistakes.
