Students should think about a child care centre they are very familiar with.  Brainstorm together on chart paper a daily checklist for teachers and director: Rules needed to protect children from danger. Remember that rules should be designed to protect children from serious hazards and that the number of rules should be limited. This is because it is important to give children opportunities to handle reasonable risks on their own. Identify items that should be on a daily checklist of possible hazards teachers should be accountable for monitoring. Identify items that should be on a weekly checklist of possible hazards teachers should be accountable for monitoring. Identify areas the director should be responsible for monitoring and steps she should take to ensure a safe environment for children and adults.
