You may use an oral history that the Civil Rights in Black and Brown Oral History Project has collected. The projects website is: https://crbb.tcu.edu/. In describing the goals and description of their project, on their home page, CRBB states, Not one but two civil rights movements flourished in mid-twentieth century Texas, and they did so in intimate conversation with one another. While most research on American race relations has utilized a binary analytical lens – examining either “black” vs. “white” or “Anglo” vs. “Mexican” – the Civil Rights in Black and Brown Oral History Project collects, interprets, and disseminates new oral history interviews with members of all three groups. You may listen to any of these interviews to fulfill this oral history paper assignment. So what do you do with all this valuable information you have collected and/or listened to. Using lectures and other reading materials provided by the course, each student will write about the individuals experiences within the context of the period. Questions could include why did he/she participate in the war or movement? What was life like before and after? How was their experience different from that of others? (This is just an example because I research Latina servicewomen during World War II but it can be anything!! Now do not worry because I will teach you how to conduct an oral history, we will practice, and I will teach you how to listen for an argument! Each paper should be argumentative and have a thesis statement.
