Discussion: Describing the teaching experience
This is an individual assignment. In words, describe the teaching experience and discuss your observations. The written portion of this assignment should include:
Summary of teaching plan
Epidemiological rationale for topic
Evaluation of teaching experience
Community response to teaching
Areas of strengths and areas of improvement
The University values diversity of placements to support the development of Student Teachers. It is important that you experience a range of school contexts during your course so that you have a broad understanding of working with children and young people from diverse communities.
Students can expect to have to travel within the greater Wellington area (Upper Hutt Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt and Porirua basin) during the two practicums. It is likely if you are living within Wellington City at least one placement will be outside the Wellington city area.
For students living outside the greater Wellington area the Teaching Experience Office will also arrange your placement and will attempt to place you in the region you are living. However the Teaching Council of New Zealand require you to undertake placements in two different schools so if that area is not able to provide you with two placements it may be necessary for you to travel or move areas in order to complete this requirement.
The Teaching Experience Office aims to release information about placements to all student teachers in a timely manner prior to the commencement of your teaching practice. We aim to do this two weeks prior to the days in schools provided schools have agreed to the placement.
