The motivation behind this assignment is to encourage you to explore diversity within the discipline of economics and to become aware of scholars from different parts of the world. Do a brief research about an economist whose work is usually not known to American public or mainstream economic scholars. This could be a woman economist, economist of color or an economist from another country. If you are an international student or an immigrant, you are especially encouraged to research an economist from your native country.   Your introductory paragraph should contain the following information about the economist you researched: His/her name, country of origin, ethnicity, language Time period and historical context (When did they live and write and in what circumstances?) Which field of economics did they specialize in? What was their major contribution?   In the rest of your paper, you should discuss the relevance of the economist’s contribution to today’s economic problems and/or to your life. This discussion should be the focus of your paper. (It is worth 2/3 of your paper; it will be graded out of 3 points) Make sure to explain clearly any economic concepts you are using.   Format and Submission Your paper should be around 1,000 words long. (Please stay within the word limit;  longer paper does not mean a better paper and may result in a lower score.)
