James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper ORDER NOW FOR CUSTOMIZED AND ORIGINAL ESSAY PAPERS ON James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper I need a 1-2 page research proposal paper discussing a controversial topic in biology , it can be about abortion. This research paper will need at least 5 sources, 3 of them must be scholarly sources. Also, I will need an annotated bibliography for the sources that will be used. These two papers will contribute to the draft and final paper which I will need assistance with later. I will attach the requirements and some samples of research proposals. I would greatly appreciate it if you would use grammerly to check for plagiarism. James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper literature_review_proposal_requirement.docx literature_review_requirement.docx quoting_paraphrasing_summarzing.pdf sample_proposal.docx sample_proposal_2.docx Research Proposal requirement You should be able to respond to the following questions: 1. What is the central research problem (controversial topic)? 2. What is the topic of study related to that problem? 3. What methods should be used to analyze the research problem? 4. Why is this important research, and why should someone reading the proposal care about the outcomes from the study? A Research Proposal is approximately 1-2 pages in length. You may or may not have sources at this time, but you should begin considering your sources at this time. It is also important to be able to provide some background to the issue. Connected to the background and significance of your study is a more deliberate review and synthesis of prior studies related to the research problem under investigation. The purpose here is to place your project within the larger whole of what is currently being explored, while demonstrating to your readers that your work is original and innovative. Think about what questions other researchers have asked, what methods they have used, and what is your understanding of their findings. Assess what you believe is still missing, and state how previous research has failed to examine the issue that your study addresses. The Literature review Research Proposal: 10/25/2020 , Annotated Bibliography Due: 11/1/2020 Research Draft Due: 11/15/2020 , Finished Product Due: Monday, 11/30/2020 Approximate Length of Paper: 4-6 pages Sources: 3 must be scholarly, aim for a total of 5 or more sources Formatting: MLA or APA for the Literature Review, you will select an issue or controversial topic in your discipline or future career, and you will examine this issue from two perspectives: your position on this topic and the counterargument (What do others say about this topic?).James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper Try to select a topic that you may be unfamiliar with, so that you learn about your topic. What I don’t want you to do is to select a topic you have already decided your position for, and then regurgitate all the research available that supports your position. Extensive research from at least three scholarly sources will support your argument. You will likely have at least five additional credible sources, but you may have as many additional sources as you wish. It will also be necessary for you to state your own opinions on the topic, though do not write in first person. Your research paper should be written in the third person perspective. The purpose of this Literature Review is to help you practice the conventions of academic writing in your discipline and meet the expectations of scholarly discourse in your field. This project will be broken up into several parts: proposal, annotated bibliography, rough draft and finished product. Your finished Literature Review will present your position and a counterargument. The counterargument allows your audience to understand that you did take the time to consider other perspectives, but you believe that your position is stronger. You will offer many sources to back up your position and counterargument. Showcasing the source material will allow you to illustrate what is taking place in the conversation at this time. 1) The Proposal – You should be able to respond to the following questions: 1. Page 1 of 2 Quoting, Paraphrasing, & Summarizing Research and the use of different kinds of evidence and texts are important skills and necessary strategies in writing, developing an argument, and participating in academic discourse. In other words, the work you engage in and produce at the university will require you to read about, think about, write about, organize, synthesize, and deploy other people’s ideas, words, concepts, studies, data, and expertise. Depending on the class and your discipline, what counts as solid, useful, and telling evidence will vary, but the use of evidence and the incorporation of evidence to support your position and rhetorical authority will always be required. The use of research and evidence requires more than just copying passages from articles, books, websites, or sources; this would be negligent and plagiarism. Part of research and writing and argument is demonstrating that you understand how to incorporate evidence, how you document evidence (MLA, APA, Chicago Style or CBE), and how you quote, paraphrase, and summarize the work of others. James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper Whether you are quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing, the evidence or selected text you use must be relevant to your writing, must support your argument, must be carefully framed or incorporated, must be attributed and cited when necessary, must be properly punctuated according to your discipline’s style, and must be explicated or analyzed. A Sample Passage Squirrels (excerpt by Edmond Chang) Squirrels belong to the order rodentia sharing a common heraldry with nearly 1,650 species. Rodents, whose family tree includes squirrels, mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, beavers, porcupines, muskrats, chipmunks, woodchucks, lemmings, and voles (but not moles, shrews, hedgehogs, hares or rabbits), are the largest group of living mammals making up forty percent of all present day mammalia. The largest species are the South American capibaras who grow to the size of small pigs and weigh up to a hundred pounds. There are over three hundred and fifty species of squirrels including red squirrels, fox squirrels, ground squirrels, pygmy squirrels, antelope squirrels, flying squirrels, and squirrel-like animals such as the gopher, ground hog, and prairie dog. The most common squirrel is the gray squirrel or more specifically the eastern gray squirrel, Sciurus carolinensis. Sciurus is Latin for squirrel and is derived from the Greek skiouros, the combination of skia meaning “shade” and oura meaning “tail.” Johann Friedrich Gmelin, the German naturalist, published the thirteenth edition of Linnaeus’ Systema Naturae in 1788 citing for the first time Sciurus carolinensis, the “shade-tail of Carolina.” Gray squirrels range all over the eastern United States, up into Canada, and only as far west as the Mississippi where the deciduous forest meets the great plains. James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper They are no stranger to the mid-Atlantic, Maryland, or the sloping lawns, splashing fountain, and long alleys lined by willow oaks of the university’s McKeldin Mall. Grays are also called cat squirrels, wood cats, Silvertails, Greybacks, or Bannertails. You can almost imagine them on the back of a jersey or on the side of a football helmet. On the Eastern Shore of Maryland, gray squirrel is a misnomer. In a curious reversal, the gray squirrel is misnamed the fox squirrel by locals and the fox squirrel, Sciurus niger, is the gray squirrel. Honneek is the Delaware name meaning squirrel. Salali is Cherokee. Xanikw is Lenape. In Russian, it’s Bielka, in Malaysian, Tupai, in Japanese, Risu, and Yiddish, Yipsel. Song shu is Mandarin Chinese for squirrel. In Bavarian, it’s Oachkatzl, in Irish, Iora glas, and in Czech, Veverka. In fact, Ververka is etymologically related to the French vair meaning squirrel’s fur. The ancestral Cinderella from the early Norman-French tale might have originally worn slippers of squirrel’s fur to the prince’s ball. Over the centuries, the telling of the tale replaced vair with the homophone verre, French for glass. Quoting or using quotations is the most common form of incorporating evidence into your writing. A direct quotation is used to support your claims or subclaims; to provide further evidence or examples; to introduce a writer’s claim, point, or position; when you want to use the writer as an authoritative or expert voice; or when the writer’s words are particularly powerful, poetic, emotional, or well-written. Quoting from the Original (MLA style): There are many different kinds of squirrels including “red squirrels, fox squirrels, ground squirrels, pygmy squirrels, antelope squirrels, flying squirrels” (Chang 3). James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper Gray squirrels, in fact, come with many different names as Edmond Chang lists, “Grays are also called cat squirrels, wood cats, Silvertails, Greybacks, or Bannertails” (4). Paraphrasing Paraphrasing is not verbatim, is put into your own words, changing words or phrasing but preserving and maintaining the passage’s original meaning and intent, introduced or framed by your writing, not in quotation marks, and needs attribution and citation. Paraphrasing is another common form of incorporating evidence or other people’s ideas into your writing. Paraphrasing is an alternative to direct quotation; to rewrite and synthesize someone else’s ideas without changing their meaning or intent; to condense and explain information, particularly in long passages or in tables, charts, or diagrams; to provide further evidence or examples. Paraphrasing from the Original (MLA style): Gray squirrels are all over North America, particularly the eastern US, up into Canada, as far west as the Mississippi, and especially in the mid-Atlantic (Chang 4). Summarizing Summarizing is not verbatim, is put into your own words, including only the main points or main ideas, provides a broad overview, often shorter than the original text, not in quotation marks, and needs attribution to the source. Summarizing is the final form of incorporating other people’s ideas or information into your writing. Summarizing is meant to condense and distill long passages or whole texts; to outline someone else’s main ideas or main points in your words leaving out details and examples; to briefly give examples of several different ideas, arguments, or points of view on a topic; to use fewer words than the original text; to provide further evidence or examples. Summarizing from the Original: Edmond Chang tells the story of how Cinderella’s slippers once might have been made from squirrel fur and not glass. Imagine for a moment that there is a place where the vast majority of your family receives their healthcare. Some of your family cannot afford healthcare on their own and this facility gives them free or low cost healthcare. Others in your family can afford healthcare outside of this facility, but choose this facility because it has specialists who are experts in the care that they need. Lastly, imagine that there is a section of your family who is unhappy with the care at the facility and are pushing to close the facility and allow them to choose different facilities. The above scenario is essentially what is playing out in the family of United States Veterans. There are many Veterans who are pleased with the care and specialists who are experts on physical and mental trauma. Other Veteran’s say the VA hospital is a machine that is no longer functional and should be closed to expand options. A careful consideration of the quality of care, the attention to care, the resources available and specialty focus of unique Veteran needs, reflects that VA hospitals are indeed the right choice for Veteran care. When considering maintaining VA hospitals as the right choice, the quality, type, resources available and patient satisfaction should all be evaluated. VA hospitals have had a history of being hot zones for problems and specialized care. As noted by Vasquez, during a 5 year study of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections in the mid to late 1990’s reflects huge problems in disease and germ containment (Vasquez). However, when comparing that to Ellingson’s research in the 2000’s, the containment protocols used were Student 2 effective and could be used throughout the healthcare system (Ellingson). The VA hospitals also are at the fore-front of trauma care.James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper No other facility or group of facilities have the amount of expertise for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) nor specialists who can appropriately design, fashion and complete prosthetic devices for patients. Many facilities produce the prosthetics at the same location that the patient will be rehabilitated in, allowing for faster adjustments and corrections of prosthetics. Technology is also a key factor in patient care. While a streamlined process of patient medical files from active duty to Veteran care is not currently viable, the technology at the VA facilities is extremely standardized and productive. Once enrolled in the VA healthcare system, a Veteran can see their doctor and pick up the prescribed medication at the same facility, on the same day. Additionally, the VA has successfully implemented the secure online communication option between patients and treating physicians. The Veteran can send a secure message to her doctor, have a prescription refilled and mailed to their home. VA medical records can also be printed or downloaded from the patient’s home. As noted by Amarasingham, an integrated IT plan is essential for U.S. Hospitals, including VA facilities (Amarasingham). The best method to evaluate the research is to use results from credible studies. The aforementioned studies show that there is increased quality of care, that the appropriate resources are in place at many VA facilities and that there is need for continued growth. VA hospitals are the appropriate place for Veteran’s to receive healthcare. No one would argue that all VA hospitals are perfect, but at no other place on earth, are there more specialists who focus on Veteran-specific needs. Veteran physical and mental trauma is unique and requires the unique focus of care that is only available at VA hospitals. Veterans are America’s family and we must always ensure that our family are receiving the best care possible. Research Proposal Student The central research problem treated in this paper is the design of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Some think that it should be performed on an ad-hoc basis using expert recommendation, but the advancement in technology are making the flightdeck (i.e. cockpit) a very complex environment; therefore, a more rigorous method is needed to study the design of SOPs. Flight management is an example of dynamic environment management [1]. It qualifies because the flightdeck is an environment with a very fast tempo, a high level of proceduralisation where information is gathered through systems, and commands are executed either directly (manual control) or indirectly through automates [1]. To ensure safe and predictable operations, support to the pilot often comes in the form of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These provide the crew with step-by-step guidance for carrying out their operations [2]. They indicate to the pilot the manner in which operational management intends to have various tasks performed [2]. They are specific and elaborate, and operations, training, and standardization depend on them [2]. SOPs are designed for complex Human-Machine systems, and are mandated by the operational management of the organization [2]. When an airline receives a new fleet of aircraft, the manufacturer shares with its customer a recommended set of SOPs for the specific type. James Madison University ENGH 302 Process of Genetic Cloning Research Paper The manufacturer SOPs are then adapted to the operator environment and constraints. In this process, the operator relies on expert judgement (i.e. experienced pilots within the company) to redesign the procedure. As a result, the validation and testing are performed on an ad-hoc fashion and constitute a costly practice. On the other hand, SOPs do indeed promote uniformity, but they do so at the risk of reducing the role of human operator to a lower level [2]. Furthermore, an exhaustive set of procedures does not ensure flawless system behavior: deviation from SOP have occurred at organizations that are regarded as highly procedurized [2]. That is to say that the design of SOPs is a complex process that needs a formal method to attain an optimum quality. The SOPs must be designed as follows: 1 Research Proposal Student (1) be completed in a reliable manner within the allowable operational time windows (i.e. response to all required events, and appropriate action for all events) (2) be completed in a manner that enables a shared mental model of events and configuration of the vehicle with the other flightcrew The current advances in technology enable the analysis of human performances using simple and easy to use predictive models in the style of the Keystroke Level Model (KLM) [3]. Additionally, methods such as Monte Carlo enable the capture of the stochastic aspect of human performances in addition to generating probability distributions. These two combined with an easy to read and build sequence diagram that models the flow of logic within a system in a visual manner, enabling to both document and validate a logic, make up for a useful way to model and analyze the flightdeck operations. SOPs are important for the safe and correct functioning of a flight deck. They structure the workflow and make sure everyone involved in the performance of the procedures knows what to expect from themselves as well as from the other components of the flightdeck (i.e. devices, other flight crew, and Air Traffic Control).
