Students will conduct a transferable skills analysis. O*NET Online and Job Accommodation Networks websites will also be critical to the completion of the assignment. O*NET ASSESSMENTS (Interest Profiler & Work Importance Profiler) The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) program https://www.onetonline.org/ is the primary source of occupational information online provided by the US Department of Labor. O*NET includes a set of free self-directed career exploration/assessment tools to help individuals consider and plan career options, preparation, and transitions more effectively. For this assignment, you will take an online version of the O*NET Interest Profiler and the O*NET Work Importance Profiler. The Interest and Work Importance Profilers are based mainly on theories discussed in this course and previous classes. These inventories will not be used in any way to determine the fit or appropriateness of your own career path, but rather to gain understanding about the use and understanding of career assessment tools and their connection to career development theory and how they are used to assist our consumers. 1. You will select a job/career in which to conduct a job analysis. This will require you to find an individual within the position and you would typically spend some time observing them perform the job. In light of COVID-19, we may not have the ability to observe a person in real life, therefore you may use videos to see the performance of a job. 2. You will then meet with them, observe via video, and begin the analysis of the job. Use the template to guide your interview provided on Blackboard. (provided by the University of Houston). 3. Once you have completed the job analysis with the individual and the job selected. You will look up a disability of your choice. Your point of reference will be: What if my interviewee in which I completed the job analysis has acquired the chosen disability? How would this disability impact their ability to perform the current job? What are the limitations, and the strengths that they currently possess? Which of these skills, abilities, interests, and knowledge are transferable? 4. Utilize resources such as the ONET, & Dictionary of Occupational Titles https://occupationalinfo.org/ to develop a placement plan to transition this individual into a new career that you have determined as most appropriate once you have taken into account the acquired disability. Your Job Analysis Questionnaire will also inform the plan. 5. Including the Job Analysis Questionnaire, the assignment will be between 8-10 pages. You may utilize information from your Disorder Case Presentation. Refer to the “Job Analysis Template”. There is no expectation that you will complete every area of the template. However, the template only serves to guide your content and organization of the paper. Please use headings in your paper for organizational purposes. Omit the section with an organizational chart, and Section J & K. It may be helpful to print the form as is off and use it during the actual observation of the job you choose to analyze. The use of ONET will help you in your efforts to identify the skills needed to perform each job. The ONET uses language that is easy to understand when trying to get a better description of occupations. This will be important when you are working on your analysis paper. 5. You will need to select someone in which you will observe performing a job. Once you’ve observed them, you are challenged to assess the job from the lens of “what if”. In other words…What if they had a disability? How might this impact their performance? You completed a Disorder Case Presentation. Use the information you’ve already collected in completing this assignment to frame a response to the “What IF? This is not a simple copy and paste. Please make sure it flows within your paper. Within your paper, please include a discussion of the chosen disability and how the disability would impact the performance of the job you chose to complete an analysis. Discuss how the job might be modified or not, and any recommendations you may have.
