Landscape History
Interdisciplinarity has been a major feature of this course. This term we have encountered a variety of interdisciplinary frameworks for interpreting landscape art, including landscape and literature (e.g. poetry, fiction), landscape and religion, landscape and design (e.g. gardening, architecture), landscape and politics, landscape and economics, as well as landscape, science, and technology. To these we might add intersections with critical race art history, feminist art history, big history, and ecocriticism. Compose a short essay of ~1,000 words focusing on one of these interdisciplinary frameworks, addressing five topics from at least three different centuries treated in the lectures and assigned readings associated with it. You must refer substantially to at least three lectures and three assigned readings in your response. Be sure to incorporate citations (either footnotes or parenthetical documentation with a bibliography) for significant paraphrases and/or direct quotations from the readings. (Assigned readings are in the uploaded files, please choose three readings for references.)
