Leadership Reflection | Instant Homework Help
This units individual assignment requires a bit of fieldwork and good deal of personal reflection. Be sure to view Adam Grants video prior to beginning the assignment. By completing this assignment you have an opportunity to help someone who has helped you to feel more energized and committed to their lifes work as well as learn a good deal about effective leadership.
In the video Always Wear Dark Suits Adam Grant describes a five-minute intervention he used to dramatically improve university fundraisers job performance and work satisfaction. Looking back over your work and academic career, identify one individual (still living) who had an important and positive effect upon your life. This person could be a teacher, coach, boss, or religious leader. Write a very brief summary of how this person positively affected you. Contact the person either in-person or by phone. The assignment requires you to have a live conversation with the person you select.
Do NOT use social media, such as Facebook, as a replacement for a live conversation.
Choose a different individual if you are unable to have a live conversation with the person you selected.
During your conversation, share the ways in which she or he positively affected you and helped shape the person you are today. Write a summary of your experience covering the following points:
Who is the person you identified and what role did they play in your life, e.g., boss, teacher, etc.
How did he/she affect you in a positive way?
What was your experience like when you shared the impact the person as had in your life as you interacted with that person?
What are the implications of this activity for leaders who want to create high-performing organizations?
NOTE: Do NOT write a general paper about a person who had a positive influence on your life. The main focus of your assignment should be the use of Grant’s five-minute intervention to express appreciation.
