Leading and Empowering Self and Others
Interview a manager (in person or virtually) about the way s/he empowers employees in order to get a better understanding of the practical implications and challenges of implementing empowerment in the workplace. You can find a list of questions to begin this conversation within the In their Own Words exercise in the “Leading and Empowering Self and Others” chapter. Feel free to add in any additional questions you like in order to enhance your analysis. You need to make sure to address the concepts below in your analysis and discuss them within your assignment. Analyze the manager’s answers and assess the extent or degree to which this manager successfully uses empowerment. Incorporate what you’ve learned in this week’s readings. What are some actions and approaches you might consider and why? What empowerment actions or approaches discussed by the manager would trigger your view of “not a chance I’d try this!” and why? Add one additional analysis about empowerment sourced from your interview, experience or reputable resources. While each of the four questions and points above help in describing the manager’s viewpoints, they are also critical to the assignment expectations. The definition of empowerment that is used must align with the questions and the analysis. This assignment can be supported by reviewing the empowerment portions of the “Leading and Empowering Self and Others” chapter. You can add additional questions to expand the discussion on empowerment.
