Moral Law

Moral law acknowledges that people have historically recognized that we owe a legally unenforceable obligation to one another to help or assist others. This may include a circumstance where a neutral third party observes a motor vehicle crash, and they have to make a decision whether they will stop to aid someone who may be injured. This could also include a circumstance where a couple is arguing in public, where one party is being abused physically or emotionally, or where a parent is unreasonably disciplining a child in public and one must decide whether to intervene or let the events unfold. Take a moment to assess this area of law, and discuss how one’s culture, upbringing, or philosophical/theological influences could shape one’s level of obligation to help others.
