About 32% of adults in the country are obese and this put them at risk of various chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and colon cancer among others. However, obesity has continued to disproportionately affect ethnic minorities, women and generally the poor in the American societies. Of great concern is how obesity has continued to affect the African Americans and this can be evidenced by the fact that most of the black in the country are likely to suffer from hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular diseases due to obesity. Women of African American descent are particularly affected by obesity since statistics indicate that the prevalence of overweight in the latter is around 66% which is 1.4 times more than women of Caucasian origin at 47%.
