Parasite (2019 film)
If you want to analyze a recommended/further reading (literary text, manga, or film), please contact me at least one week before the due date. I may ask you change the reading to work on. I strongly recommend that your essay focus on ONE of the main topics of the reading to engage in the text in depth. Argue a specific point(s) and cite evidence/concrete examples from the text to support it. For your argument, you may use any course readings, study guides, lecture slides, and recommended reference books. You are not required to use sources outside that we have not covered in class. Use a formal essay structure. This includes a title, an introduction with a thesis statement, and a conclusion. Follow an academic citation style. 1. Structure: Organization of the work. a. Clear beginning and ending, with each body paragraph devoted to one example or analytical point. b. Begin with a brief introduction that states the paper topic, your thesis, and presents the trajectory of your argument. c. End with a brief concluding sentence/paragraph/section/ that draws together your argument and makes it clear what you have done. d. A good paragraph does not merely describe, but strengthens an assertion or component of your overall thesis. 2. Comprehension and analysis a. Component parts of written work are visible: claims, evidence/data, and description. b. The essay demonstrates understanding of course material covered in lectures and readings. c. Technical terms and names used correctly. 3. Choice of examples a. Selection of examples from course material covered in lectures and readings. b. Examples should be cited as summary or direct quotation and contribute to the assertion or key point of the paragraph where they are placed. c. The significance of each example should be clearly explained and integrated into the paper. They should not stick out. d. Cite sources as needed and take care that you have used appropriate and reliable sources (Wikipedia is not a reliable scholarly resource; take care to discern the particular perspective of a website or source you are using.) 4. Argument and logic a. The work should exhibit a central thesis and overall development in relation to that thesis. An overall thesis should be argued for, step-by-step, throughout. b. Your thesis is the main point of the work, and should be expressed in your introduction and conclusion, and be apparent throughout. Analysis (3.5pts): Do you engage in the text in depth?
