Personal Responsibility
You can write about any topic you feel passionate about, but let’s do some prewriting to help you get started. Do some free writing or brainstorming about all of the points below. 1. There are a lot of things in society that people fail to take responsibility for even though they should. My example was voting, but list some things you feel people need to be more responsible about. 2. There are issues in society that could be minimized or even solved if people were willing take the responsibility to do their part. One of my examples was recycling/trash pickup, but list some needs that you think people need to be willing to step up for and do their part. 3. Some of you may have causes or organizations that you support and feel others should be willing to support as well. List causes or organizations that you support that others should as well. 4. Finish these sentences by listing various ideas that come to mind about what your potential topic could be. * Some things I feel passionate about are… * Some things I feel need to be changed are… * If I had the power to change one thing, it would be… Now pick one or more of these ideas and write about why you think these are worth fighting for. Part 2: Decide on a Topic To submit your topic, first, answer the following questions in complete, by brief sentences. * What personal responsibility are you going to argue for? * Why did you choose this topic? Why is it important to you? * What change do you want to see happen in the topic you are focusing on? * What do you hope to learn by researching and exploring this topic? * What do you hope you can teach your reader about this topic? * *Write one paragraph about your topic. What do you already know? What do you want to know more about? Why is is important for people to take responsibility for it? Thank you!
