Petition Letter
I am a second-semester senior from a university in the United States. I suppose to graduate this winter (12/2020); however, I need help drafting a strong petition to the school because I want to stay on campus for spring 2021 due to family situation and pandemic. Please draft a 300-word petition letter that cover the following points below; please focus on that I do not have secure housing (as this is the criteria for the school to determine if I am eligible to stay for another semester or not). The petition letter needs to be sincere and clear and concise. About school policy: There is a petition process for financial aid students who wish to stay on campus for spring 2021 due to COVID-19. The request would be based on the student’s housing status (assuming no secure housing) not whether the student needs more time to complete their degree requirements. About my situation: 1)I am on financial aid with high needs. Receive maximum federal pell grant from the US government. 2)My mother was laid off by her employer six months ago from the hotel. My father’s small business income on selling artwork has decreased significantly during the pandemic. 3)My parents do not own a house and currently live in a one-bedroom apartment in Alabama. Although I am no longer a dependent, I lived in the living room over the summer. Not the ideal place to live due to the small room and I am 24 (no longer dependent to my parents). 4)It was hard to find a job in Alabama. 5)As a college student with no employment experience outside of school, I do not qualify for unemployment assistance, therefore losing campus jobs and housing would be a struggle for me during the pandemic (assuming COVID-19 is still going on in January). My plan for fall 2020 and spring 2021: 1) work on campus at the purchasing office and the department of computer science as a teaching assistant (try to save money for summer 2021). The department of computer is short-staffed due to the pandemic so they need me for spring 2021. 2) if I can stay one extra semester on campus, this will give me sufficient time to finish up an additional major in data science. 3) Work on my senior thesis with the department of computer science in the spring semester.
