Rhetorical Analysis  |Get Solution

First make sure you’ve read Parts 1 and 2 of Book 1 of Aristotle’s Rhetoric, then watch the video clips in the module for this week. You will need to choose one video to base your essay on. This essay will be a modified Rhetorical Analysis using both the section of the Rhetoric and your chosen video. Please follow the outline below explicitly for your first essay. Your essay needs to be no less than 750 words, feel free to add additional paragraphs where you see fit.  This essay needs to be written in third person and follow current MLA style.  You must have developed paragraphs and a works cited page for this essay to receive credit in addition to following the outline listed below.  1st Paragraph: *Note this essay does not have a traditional introduction  Summarize Parts 1 and 2 of Book 1 of Aristotle’s Rhetoric. Make sure you cover the overall ideas presented in the text as well as the historical value of this text for our discipline. Feel free to incorporate additional sources to achieve this (just make sure you appropriately cite them). Then in your own words state why you feel this work is important and how it connects to the appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos. Use at least one quote from Aristotle’s work to justify your position.  2nd Paragraph:   Start by stating the video clip or clips you have chosen. Then in 2-3 developed sentences describe the video(s). [What is the content of the video? What is the face-value meaning? What audience is it trying to reach? Does it hold a greater meaning or importance?] Then state which appeal you feel is shown the strongest in the video clip (ethos, pathos, or logos). You need to explicitly and directly state this (I.e. In Legally Blonde 2, Elle Woods uses Pathos when arguing with Ethan.). Next, explain why you feel that way. In other words, justify your answer. You need to use at least three examples from the movie. Make sure you use appropriate citations for the source, both in-text and on the works cited page.   *This paragraph could theoretically be expanded into 2 paragraphs if that facilitates your organization better.   3rd Paragraph:   Next choose the other two appeals you did not use in previous paragraph. (I.e. if you chose pathos, you need to work on logos and ethos). We know all sound arguments utilize all three appeals. Apply these last two appeals to your video clip. Explain where they are used and how that supports the argument in the clip. These need to justified with evidence from the source (direct quotation or summarized segments from the video). You need at least one example for each appeal.  4th Paragraph:   For your last paragraph you will tie your two elements together. How is the argument presented in your video clip valid and strong according to Aristotle’s text? You need to directly state the argument presented in the video clip and break it down. Make sure this is explicitly clear to your reader. What makes it strong according to Aristotle’s text? (Note you will not discuss the culture or content of the movie, but the argument). Use at least two examples from Rhetoric to justify your reasoning.  Works Cited Page:   For your works cited page you need to have two sources cited. First you will have  Aristotle’s Rhetoric. You will follow the source for an on-line book. The next citation you will have is your movie clip. You will cite a youtube video.  These are both located in your MLA textbook.
