Solidary Obligations
Do you think you have an obligation to help those in need? Explain your position and provide good reasoning for it. If you think you do have such an obligation, then consider Hardin’s lifeboat analogy: How is the analogy supposed to work and what is it meant to show? Do you think the analogy is convincing? Why or why not? If you do not think you have an obligation to help those in need, then consider Singer’s argument: Present and evaluate his argument regarding the duty to give to those suffering from famine. Paper Citations: This paper is meant to be an argumentative position paper in which you take a position (your thesis) that answers the paper prompt question and you defend it with sound argumentation. It is not meant to be a research paper. However, because the paper prompt requires that you discuss a scholarly source, you must cite your source(s) using a standard citation format (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc) and including both in-text citations (or footnotes) as well as a “Works Cited” page with full bibliographic information. Failure to cite your sources will not simply result in a bad grade, but will initiate disciplinary action.
