[Solution] Define impasse, mediation, and strike, and explain the techniques that are used to overcome an impasse.
Impasses happen when the engaged parties are not able to continue further towards a given settlement. On the other hand, mediation is regarded as an intervention in which a neutral third party is engaged in dispute resolution process and coming to mutual agreements that will, in turn, favor the two parties. A strike is the deliberate refusal to continue operating due to an argument or fight with a worker regarding the working status, pay levels, and job losses. Some of the ways of breaking an impasse include a change of negotiators where sometimes breakdowns in a negotiation process happen due to personal interest. Through changing the negotiator or the entire team, a modern point of view can be incorporated to the table, and the talk can thus take a new turn and change of events (Cadwallader et al. 2010). Another appropriate technique is through incorporating a mediator since the third party in a negotiation table is a good way for both the sides in discovering a face-saving manner to resolve the existing differences.
